End of the US Open?

That's a preferred Casino time then I'd think.
Someone told me Aug was their prime season.
I'd have to imagine it is their prime season. Begs the question why they'd want to fill their facility with pool players when they don't need them otherwise.

I'm sure it's of a share benefit to some degree. MR probably wants it to be a destination event so having during enjoyable weather makes the trip more dynamic.

If an amateur can't play in a pro event until he is a pro, how would you have people move from amateur to professional?

kollegedave

by definition, the field will have 128 tour card carrying pros. the rest may be amateurs, former pros or semi-pros, but they will not be pros in the WNT definition

That's worded in very typical WPA babble....

I don't recall them declaring anyone not carry a MR contract a "non-pro"... They only refer to the first 128 slots being reserved for "contracted pros".

Amateurs don’t believe they belong on the pro tour yet they play on the pro tour? Ok Lou and what about the pros who couldn’t play because an amateur beat them to the punch?

This thread is about entry to the US Open.

And, as kollegedave said: if you’re a “pro”and can’t manage getting signed up in time for your job you don’t deserve to be call a “pro” at much of anything. If you’re a “pro” at least have your manager do it, lol.

I know, but they are well organized from cutting their teeth on Snooker and other individual sports.
But this summertime situation is new, in the pros, it's always been in fall/winter/spring but summer not in the past, family time/kids outta school. I wonder if it's legal for a 16 yr old to be in a casino after hours to compete in the finals.

At Harrah's Atlantic City, it's not an issue. At Derby City, once cannot get to the grand ballroom (where the tournament is played) without passing through the casino entrance, and that's what causes the issues.

At Harrah's, one need not pass through the casino to get to the grand ballroom in which the tournament is contested. That's one reason that having a junior event in conjunction with the US Open has never been an issue.

Depends on how far back you go. I was in Asbury Park in 1976:

I knew :) someone might dig somethin' up, But winters 50 yrs ago were quite different.

That BCA event on the calendar, what was this?
BCA and & US Open wording together.
Not seen those two, in bed.

He knows, but thx.
The owner is from Boston, good player, been successful in the Colorado Springs restaurant business for 20 some years in the downtown area.
He's well aware of this.
He's paying 10k a mth rent, it's a nice building, in the right spot, just off Interstate 25 downtown.

Say Hi to Joe for me.

Crane 150 and out against Balsis in the first one.

That doesn't seem to work with the current qualifiers. This was posted above in this thread about a qualifier for the current UK Open:

For the UK Open, here is the info on the last qualifier which is nine days before the tournament starts. It's at a room in London. The UK Open is in Telford, which is a 3 hour/ $100 train trip from London.
...
And here is the info for the Thailand qualifier for the UK Open

Main points:
128 entries at $200 (about)
16 will qualify, so one in each 8 entries.
Additional prize money added (about $8k)
All qualifiers will receive at least $1000 cash plus entry to the UK Open.
Players cannot transfer their entry.

I talked to Joe C and he wanted to let you know the rent is $20k/month.

A few weeks ago we got together at his new place and did a walk I've owned a room and designed and ran two other so I have some helpful input. We bounced around ideas and concerns about layout/spacing etc. that's when he told me 10K.

Wow. That qualifier itself is a big event! 8K USD to the winner, 1K USD to 16th place, on a 200 USD entry, 128 player field.

Also wow: the UK Open entry fee is only 250 USD.

Itching to get to that... I'm in Thailand from 30th - 7th... my GF needs to fly back on the 6th and I need to take an extra day off work to accommodate flights back.
Weighing up whether it's worth the double doghouse to get my ass beat raw 🤣

So where they going to find enough halls with 9ft tables to qualify on? Everyone has barboxes now. I think one of the main points that some are trying to make here is golf courses running qualifiers are in a lot closer proximity than pool halls to run qualifiers. Even if they are not, a lot of golfers drive to play.

I know golfers that will drive 2 hours just to play a certain course on a Saturday morning. You know any pool players that will drive 2 hours to play some pool? the golf USOpen paid the winner 3.6M with a 20M dollar purse. It’s worth driving to get qualified.

USOpen-$50000 for first. That’s 7000% less money. 50th place paid $50000 in the PGA Open. And you expect pool players to drive 5 hrs for a qualifying tournament and stay over night at a hotel. And if they win that they are allowed to go to another tournament of 256 people that you can’t even pay your stay unless you finish top 32?

Sorry just making sure I’m following here.
