I was just wondering which posters are from the area considering that I'm up here now and playing pretty regularly at Dave's and Dr Cue's. I just was trying to figure out if I've met any of the posters here on the forum yet while being up here the last several days. I had just got done playing in the Friday night tourney at Dave's

hey I'm from the area. In fact this thursday I have a lesson with a Paul (can't remember his last name) but he qualified for the IPT and is well known for good lessons. I guess he has lessons lined up at the golden fleece in Kenmore.
 
I live in Mount Vernon, 60 miles north of Seattle and try and make it to Dr. Cue's every so often but my work schedule lately has been brutal (three days off since Jan. 1). Things should settle down shortly and I'll start making the trek down there again.

How's the one pocket table at Daves? Tight?

Since then they've said that it's only going to be one pocket played on it, but I have to say that I was right in my prediction. It does play tight; however, IMO it plays easier than a standard cut diamond. If you were the one that set up all of those tables, I have to say "Nice Job". The tables play very straight and VERY fast. It's hard to believe that they are 860 and not 760. I ran out the only nineball rack I played on the 1pocket table, and I thought that for me it played a little easier and I think this is why. The angle of the pocket facing is slightly less. I don't mean the down angle, I mean the facing angle relative to the pocket. Of course this only makes it easier if you are more accurate. A wider angle will have the rebound angle heading more toward the opposite facing than toward the pocket.

You DO have to be more accurate and I think that it seems easier to me because of my aiming and playing style than it actually being easier. I think that it is because on any table I play on, I tend to aim at the whole pocket, instead of center pocket. Since I do this, I'll often without thinking "play the pocket" to have a better angle on the OB. Since the facings on a looser table tend to be a wider angle, they tend to rebound toward each other.

The other thing on the tight diamond is that since less of the pocket is there, and the slate of the pocket is rounded, the shelving doesn't appear to be quite as deep, so while you have to be more accurate to make it into the pocket facing, if you do, it seems to be more likely to fall.

Feel free to disagree, and remember, this is only an observation from playing one game of nineball on the table.

Is Dave's the same place as the new room, The Golden Fleece? I know David is one of the owners.

Everyone up here seems to refer to it as Dave's so that's what I've been calling it too.

You know, if you stretch the 860 cloth tight enough...it kind of makes you think you're playing on 760:D ...lol

And the pocket angles that I was talking about before in another thread;) is what I was talking about when I was referring to the way I tighten pockets. With the right angles in the pockets, you can make them tighter without the part of rejecting balls that are hit correctly, but not allow slop. They're tight but fair...LOL but you're right, when you tighten the pockets, at the same time you move the slate shelf forward by narrowing the pockets ability to hang balls deep in the pocket on the deep slate shelfs, that's on of the draw backs of narrowing the pocket openings...it creates easier pockets once the balls are in the jaws of the pockets, thus only for the most part...giving you a smaller target to get the balls into, but once again you're right...if you shoot for the whole pocket, you'll do just fine:)

I actually like it better. You have to be more accurate but with less chance of having a well played ball rejected and hung up in the pocket. I wish all of the tables were like that.

And you're right, Dave is a great guy and his room is top notch. It reminds me a lot of the room I grew up in and ran for several years.

7804 NE Bothell way, Kenmore Wa

I don't think you;ll easily find it with GPS, just remember that it is directly across from the bowling alley toward the rear of the buildings that it is a part of. There is also a great Mexican food restaurant on the same set of buildings right by the street.

It has a sign out front that just says Billiards and nothing else.

Dangit! Danny...let me know when you're going to head further up north...like to see Ken at his place in B'ham. Then maybe you can bring that funny runscott guy with you...since the last time he tried to get to Ken's, last year...he lost his ride, and then after planning on the train, had a mudslide take out the tracks...LoL. Ken's got a nice place, with some tough tables...love how he has it set up! I might even let you try my Tucker(s). :D Neither will be leaving with you, however! :p
