Experiments in looking at the cueball while delivering the stroke.

An update on my observation of the eye pattern on the Matchroom Live.
Judd Trump is playing Shawn Murphy and occasionally gives high definition looks.
My suspicion and theory regarding times Judd was just a little off. They resemble my experience. It was shortly after the Stephen Hendry interview that discusses eye pattern.
Perhaps Judd is moving or has now moved the Final focus. He is looking strong.
 
Judd Trump and Mark Williams both having heavy and readable eye brows are engaged on Matchroom Live and will have a second session at 10 my time. An interesting study. 🤷‍♂️
 
Matchroom Live is doing it again, with Selby vs Higgins. The irresistible force vs immovable object. Provides occasional good looks at their eyes. Higgins brow movement provides an easy read. Selby....not so much. Shrug 🤷‍♂️ if he wasn't already The Anaconda (for his safety play) I would call him The Man with no eyes. 😉
 
Higgins long pot did give Selby a momentary stun. His next 2 shots were adequate, just barely. Mark got himself right and sends me to get coffee at the interval. 2-2 going to 10. What entertainment.

I kinda, sorta/not really, feel sorry for the OP. He's been pushing this agenda with unhinged zealotry for over ELEVEN years. Most players look at the OB last, we all know that. Some don't that's true. WHY does this matter to GC so much?? Is he out to convince the world he's right before he croaks??? Kinda sad in a way.

That's interesting, considering Shaw's accomplishments. I can't watch the clip just yet as I'm studying Kyren Wilson in the U K Championship.
With Kyren being Barry Stark's star pupil and Barry teaching object ball last. I am curious if Kyren still plays that way. Stephen Hendry speaking to his and Ronnie's method being cueball last, could or should carry weight. However Kyren is doing it now, it's working well for him and shows in his accomplishments.

I agree with you, but I have gone to looking at the cue ball last throughout the stroke, and it seems to be working, after having never done it for 50+ years of looking at the object ball last..

You have to have full confidence in your line and in your alignment, and you still have to stroke absolutely straight back and through, which there is no guarantee.

Looking at the Cue ball last I feel like I have a better chance of accomplishing that and certainly have a better chance of striking the cue ball precisely where I plan to. Unfortunately I can still miss, particularly under pressure, but it’s usually the result of a faulty stroke and not that I’m looking at the cue ball throughout the stroke.

I am not selling anything. I seek only to make the truth available.
The truth as I know it is that either way can produce world class results. My greatest monetary and trophy accomplishments came when I employed object ball last as Willie Mosconi prescribed. My current method of looking at whitey as I strike it has proven to me that I have better cueball control that way. Potting the object ball is one facet of the desired result. Well unless a safety is played. Either way the final rest of both balls is a goal that I get better results with now.
The fact that this thread has survived all these years and yet some poo poo the idea of looking at the ball when you hit it has me perplexed. As new evidence is revealed I try to make it available. This latest Jason Shaw revelation is an eye opener. 😉 AND I applaud Bieberlvr for an interesting contribution. 🥂

There are a lot of things yet (like this) that could be debated ex. (Stroke plans).
I look back and forth a few times then the object ball last but whatever floats his boat.

I was told by an instructor that the Stroke Pause Finish stroke needed a big pause, then a few years
later its now a temporary pause in the natural swing and that Efren's stroke and pre-strokes were
outside the box, but is it really? Isn't he really showing us the way? I think so. Changed my stroke to
have momentum like that and my game went up a great deal with better position play. Apparently
we are learning by the day.

That's a place I look first in analyzing a miss. Quite often an abbreviated pause shows up. Once I have identified what I think was the cause for my break down, I can then relax in my chair and get my mind right just in case I get back to the table. 🤷‍♂️
Ronnie O'sullivan has a variable pause, is my ass says mint. (I could be wrong) Ronnie also said to the
enquiry of "which ball last?"
"It could be either".
Stephen Hendry says "cue ball last and Ronnie too. "

My opinion is that at the top level, it doesn't make that much of a difference whether they look at OB or CB last, or somewhere inbetween or nearby. The line has been chosen a long time ago, and the muscle memory of a straight stroke relative to their alignment has been burned in enough times to not be steered off by a slight difference in focus of vision. Not saying that the topic of eye focus isn't important, it definitely is, but the differences it causes are smaller the better you get.
