F/S: Willie Hoppe cue

John Rambo?

Hi Klopek,

For heaven's sake I was only asking how sure you were. The owner of this cue is pretty sure that the proper spelling of the cue is Rambo. If that is you on your avatar, I would say the owner is about twice your age (sorry Paul..) if you're still curious if the cue "belonged to Sylvester Stallone" at some point, you can have a chat with the owner in a poolhall somewhere in Scarborough. PM me if you're interested.

-Not Sylvester Stallone

Hi Michael,

what do you think who the cuemaker of this cue..i posted a thread about this cue and asked for opinion of this cue and the price ....people want to see picture of it which I took some crappy one.....the owner told me its a "Rambow" or "Rambo" cue so i guess i have to take his word .... i am no expert this cues ....if it is the cue that owner had told me what do you think this cue will go for? just asking for an opinion ...and will greatly appreciate it :) ...I think I can bring this to VF and ask our fellow AZ members about this cue..what do you think guys?

What you seem to have here is a pre-1954 Willie Hoppe
with 'updated' rings on the shaft and butt and a steel
replacement joint of the original brass - not unheard of
due to the fact that the butt joint collars are infamous
for loosening with age.

To a collector, I would think that would make it LESS valuable,
not more. MrHoppe and TATE would have a better feel for influence
on price.

There is some chance it's a reworked Rambow - I don't know
if anybody could tell at this point. Herman typically cut his cues
and re-attached under the wrap - that is what he got his patent
for. But I have seen verified Rambows that were unchanged
from the full length Hoppe 'blank'

This is right on - a re-worked 1950's Willie Hoppe Pro. The wrap, joint, and rings are all changed out, so the cue might be cut under the wrap as Dale points out. The rings are unusual and look pretty new to me.

The case is an original Palmer case from around 1970 with some added lettering.
