dang it, why does this keep happening, i have the opportunity to run racks but i seem to miss a ball alot...and itwasnt even that hard of a shot...how do u increase my mental concentration or whatever i need for this to stop happening........

You just got to try as hard on every shot. Don't take anything for granted. If you're taking a lot of time on the tough shots while your down take just as much time on the easy ones.

When you miss a ball that you usually should make it's probably because you 1 stroked the shot when you were down on the cueball.

I used to have this happen to me all the time and a good player and friend of mine came up to me and said "You do to much stroking and not enough aiming/pausing". What I was doing was just warm up stroking and then firing away, never did I stop to aim, make sure I was hitting where I wanted to hit and adjust if I needed to. I almost always find if I take time to aim while im down on the cueball I find myself adjusting just a bit to make the ball. You are not always perfectly alligned when you get down. You must take the time to aim while down on the shot.

fundementals

stay down concentrate follow thru don't raise up your thinking about your next shot before you cinch the shot your shooting at. you have to make this one before you go to the next one.

I have this problem too. When I analyze the misses that I should have made, I always find that I had been thinking about something other than the shot in front of me--what the cueball is going to do, the pleasure of completing the runout, the embarassment of failing to runout--you get the idea. If I can decide how to strike the cueball and then focus my entire being on just getting that one ball into that specific hole, I get much more consistency. I keep slipping though. I'm working on it....

When I miss an easy shot a friend of mine likes to say "some shots just ain't worth aiming". Get over that and you'll run out more.

I find that when I'm missing it is either I one stroke the ball or my eye is looking where I want the cue to go. But I'm getting better, I just have to remind myself to pay attention to each shot. Good luck with it.

I do the same thing!!!...seems once I can see the finish line I choke, usually something easy.

This is what I think (that I do anyway). When playing 8 ball you can be off on your leave and still have shots early in the rack. but when it gets down to those last balls you have to be on or you won't have a shot at the next ball and I tend to start overthinking everything then. I don't have a cure for it, I still do it, but thats my assessment of what happens (to me anyway).

here my 2 cents jcpoolgod :)

i know your pov really good- saw that on many players. have had that problem also long ago. i was training like an idiot, each drills and then 4-5 games of straight pool each day. in the year i m talkin about was beaten in almost every tournament close to the final rounds. i was very pissed and wasn t able what mistakes i made etc. - if somebody reached that point he s searching for any lil chance how he can fix it to come *back* in stroke and find his level again. during workin on everything what u eventually could do better *most* ppl forget just about the main things- the fundamentals of the game my friend. at the end of that year a good friend (owner of the billard hall) came up with another guy and they were watching me doing drills. the owner of this pool hall was one of the best Carom Billards Players in the World for his lifetime in the technicals disciplines (escpecially cadre etc. ) and his *friend* was even so already a european champ and world champ in 3-cusion. after they were interested what i was doing there on *my* pool table i just said *doing drills* and find my game back. we talked a lot, had some coffees and i was impressed about some stories they talked about (world champion chips etc:eek: ) so i asked them both what they think what i could do wrong, after beeing kicked out of each tournament over a year close to final rounds. Both were equal in their advice and answer:
the first thing always: training- BUT good training and at least: if u re perfect on your fundamentals like stroke and stance all will come up alone for you. the biggest help was then the last advice/tip. Mr Spielmann (the older guy from them) said- that all makes absolutley no sense, if u don t like your game- don t hat yourself and NEVER hate your opponent! just be lucky to be able to spend time on your hobby. be lucky if he let s u again to *your* table. each mistake/fail will bring your further with your game! if u miss- just smile- take your chalk and sit down and enjoy watchin your opponent.
fundamentals are the most important in each game- if u re paying attention on your stance, stroke and have found your way to be just satisfied when spending time on your hobby you ll probably get a large boost on pool(hope that s your hobby, rofl).
after thinkin about that conversation with 2 extremly successful guys i thougt a long time about it. then i was able to play my hobby again FOR FUN- and it gave me back my satisfation- i was jsut lucky to be able to shoot those lil balls into pockets etc. in my freetime off work.
Mr Spielmann was a man, who erally don t often talked much- but if u were inthe lucky position, that he told you somethin about billard(no matter how much :p), you could feel like a knight :p. i am so thankful that i was able to meet this great man and sportsman. he always gave simple advices-and it always based on fundamentals.
he also said: your oppenent always beats himself and destroy himself. just do that what your re able to do in the time on *your* table. ..and have fun.
at least in the following 2 years i reached almost every final round. a high percentage in our game is about mental things- but what u really need...fundamentals and effective training :-)

sorry for my low english- hope i cóuld write these words that you understand what i meant.

have fun mate,

You could be thinking to much about the the runout.. and not following thru.. I remember my first three pack I didnt even know it until the last nine fell. The he said something.. .. and I broke had a good layout and started thinking about it and dogged it..

I miss more often when I think too much about cue ball shape.

Nothing makes me Hulk up more than when I miss but get perfect shape.
