Famous wood

Great Peer Advice!

I don't think anyone should dictate the cues you finish and don't finish. They didn't buy your equiptment or turn your lights on. You did the right thing in fully disclosing the history of the cues. You can not make everyone happy in this world. I say finish the cue. If they don't like it. They don't have to buy it. One thing I have learned is people like to start trouble for no good reason. If they had no interest in buying a cue from you before they shouldn't worry what you do now.

Dave,

A very insightful observation and very good peer advice.

I think I will take your advice and finish one of them from time to time with full disclosure of origin, of coarse. I will allow the ebay auction market place to set the price, damm the torpedos!

Thanks,

Rick

It could affect the value. If I had wood from Balabushka or Rambow's shops. Some might feel it was worth something for collectors value. Others might see the true value of it being very old wood. Now if it was a point blank from Burton Spain or some type of cue part other than plain wood it could make the cue worth much more. I still have some original Spain blanks. But I have decided the only way they are getting cues made out of them is as Spain tributes with very nice inlay work, probably with Ivory butt plate and joint and priced starting at $5000.

I wonder what his number is for the whole shooting match?

$1,000,000 is my guess.

Bob or bobalouiecda on here has talked to Hubler several times with no results yet. I think Hubler has a deep connection with his wood and it's hard letting it go.

Have you had any takers at that price? Is that what would be expected, or a value you set to deter selling them at all?

I have only built one out of these older blanks. The blanks cannot be replaced, so if someone wants one it will be a high end cue. I am not wasting those blanks on something simple.

HI,

If the average cue maker tried to get 5 grand for one, they would be hard pressed to find a buyer.

If Chris was to make a fancy cue from one of these B. Spain blanks, there would be a lot of interest. I would think that if Chris holds on to those blanks and puts them on the market when the economy is rolling again, then the sky could be the limit to the right buyer.

"Famous Wood" ( Spain Blanks ) and a long standing establishment of name recognition & reputation of the Cue Maker like Chris would get the big money very fast!

Paul Hueblers Shop

As most of you know Paul Huebler stopped making cues several years ago. He dissolved his corporation in 2008 and the inventory has been sitting since. As a collector and player of Huebler cues I have kept in contact with Paul for a few years. I have been to his shop to discuss buying some or all of his inventory. He was adamant about not seeing the inventory ending up out of the country.

For the last few months Paul has not answered his phone. When we did talk he could not remember our talk the day before. I learned today that Paul is
in a nursing home. What is happening to his inventory I am continuing to investigate. I am awaiting a return call from a lawyer who I understand is a friend and has worked for Paul. I am in contact with local auction houses in case a sale happens without much notice.

If I learn anything I will share the info with those hoping to purchase some materials or machinery. At one time I considered all of it but my pockets are not deep enough. I would need a backer to buy and turn the inventory. I think Paul would still sell to me if I could negotiate the right price. Almost all of the Huebler lumber is at least 10 years old. This could keep most of the cue builders busy for years to come. At this point I would rather not disclose the inventory or approx. value.

Paul does not need the money and is aware that the vultures are circling.
I see it as a great opportunity but hope that his wish to keep his shop either intact or at least out of Asia is honored. I will try to keep you all informed. Bob Healey

God Bless Paul!!

Huebler Inventory

I just heard from Paul Hueblers' attorney. There are no immediate plans to liquidate his goods. If and when it is for sale I should know.
