Fargo Match.... 679 vs 851

Numbers don’t define a player. Mike catches a gear-GG. Mike doesn’t catch a gear, who knows.

Mike can catch a gear a normal 679 player can’t catch.

Fatboy <———doesn’t believe in handicap systems all the time.
I doubt Sigel is really that low in terms of ability if he started playing again- I know he is old, but if he went back to playing consistently, he would probably be around 730.

Fargo 751 means Filler. I think Sigel getting 14 on the wire in a race to 21 vs Filler sounds about right.

Fargo difference of 100 means that the lower rate player would expect to win 1/3 of the racks. Hence, it would take a Fargo 751 to be a fair match for Filler at 10 games on the wire on 21. Donny Mills is about that Fargo.

Bingo.... The time I played em in late 70's for almost 7 hrs straight, he NEVER missed a pocket by more than an inch EVER. I just made sure the shots that I gave him (we played 2 shot shoot out), the pocket was not able to accept that ball if you had to come around table for shape 4-5 rails or more, they always spit out. Beat em to the ball about 80% of the time, he was still learning this part of the game, but his pocketing...... I've NEVER seen a player ''swing it'' like Earl could, EVER.

The man had a gear like few others...😎

I agree, Mike still has such solid everything he’s capable of playing well above 675 speed. I’ve played him (when I was playing about that speed) it wasn’t a winning game for me. It was a few years ago.

The guys who are champions always have a threat that normal players don’t have. Also Mike knows how to win as good if not better than any player. Which counts for a lot.

The flip side being age, Mike might miss routine balls now which he’d never have missed in 1986. It happens.

Sucks getting old but better than the alternative

Fatboy <———-plays other games now

A 21-6 race would favor Mike 58.6%.
A 21-7 race would favor Filler 55.5%.

Yikes those are HUGE spots.

Yup, and see the viz around other possible R15 races on the heatmap.
https://slyfox3.github.io/FargoRateRaceChartViz/?p1=679&p2=851&race=15

Note that, given the huge 172 Fargo points in difference, AND the long race, FargoRate predicts that there's at most 35.84% chance for Mike to win a 8-22 race in chart R15.

Mike becomes a favor in a 7-23 race, but that's already "off" R15 range (over 3x games needed by higher rated player). -Arnie

Go back and watch the finals of the IPT's King of the Hill event that was in Orlando. Efren vs. Sigel. That was nearly 20 years ago. Mike was in fine voice, though. :ROFLMAO::poop:
I played quite a few local events with him shortly after that and he didn't win em all. Today, fedor would.

There's a lot lost as far as motivation goes when we get older.

Although now that I think of it, Strickland played Sigel about 10 years ago 6 or 7 different sets, across many game types. It was organized by Accustats. From memory, Strickland won all but one set. He killed Mike on most of the sets. Filler today is way way way stronger than Strickland was 10 years ago.
I was there to watch that match. It's hard to gauge a match made for funzies.

Mike is 71 years old and hasn't played any serious pool for decades. Getting 14 or 15 game on the wire to 21 though? I'd still bet on Mike (if he'd practice for a week).

Yeah I think I'd bet the farm on Filler if he gave Mike Sigel 14 games on the wire to 21. Earl still pockets balls as well as any American not named Skyler or Shane, and even he would struggle to get to 7 against Filler because his break is so sub-par.

For what its worth I think Pia is stealing from Mike

thats why with the way tournaments are set up they should skip the playing part and just hand out the money according to their fargo's.

it works out near that way anyway except for a few cases.

when players wise up and maybe never will, they will stop coming as players(donators).

Ya know what the difference between Mike and the other 679s? Mike really believes he's capable of playing well and beating anyone in one race. Confidence goes a long was in pool.

Earls high gear, I believe is the all time highest gear.

Fatboy<——-lucky enough to have seen that a few times
Mike had thee best long ball shot ''punch shot'' of all his peers.
His cue ball had no rotation on it upon object ball contact.
He most always struck his cue ball Dead Center, as good as Filler.

"Had" is the operative word here. As Garzar said, he is done. No shame in that, Mike is a legend. It just be what it do.

679 is 679, #'s tell the truth. No amount of anybodys feeling are gonna change that.

everyone gets worse at any sport and also most things as they age, its a fact of life.

if you can not adjust to it you are doomed to failure.
