FargRate Question

How do you get your information removed from FargoRate, including removing my information from their app?

Sent email to their support@FargoRate.com.

I have not given anyone my permission (except the APA), to track my games. And the APA tracks my innings, break and runs, eight on the break and so on. But they only use it for APA events.

I am willing to go to court if necessary to get my information removed.

Thoughts?

I would guess if you played in a tournament that reported to Fargo, you gave your permission. Thoughts? This is stupid. Why does it matter? Any tournament or event would be in a public place. What if AZBilliards reported the news of the tournament you played in, you going to contact them to complain they mentioned your name without your express written notarized permission and you need your appearance fee first? Or someone just wrote down your name and scores and posted on their pool fan page?

Here is a quote from someone I asked about this "Oh poop, I can't sandbag anymore" hehe. There are two reasons you would not want to be in Fargo, you are embarrassed about how you play, which is silly to hide from, or your APA rating is not in line with your Fargo rating and you can't sandbag as easily. Or just petty *****ing about nothing.

Another thing, your matches are tied to others that played with you and the players that those people played. Can't really just cut you out with affecting probably a dozen other players or more depending on how many matches you have in the system.

see Where this goes.................... I’m betting he’s a 420 Fargo

I'll bet 652;)

I like this game, put me in for 530, and a 4 in APA.

I would actually like MORE of my matches in Fargo system since almost all of mine are from handicapped leagues and I want to see more of how I do against others even.

FargoRate

The last time looked I was a 652. APA 7 in eight ball, and APA 9 in nine ball. And I will not play in a tournament that uses FargoRate. And I understand how it works, I make a living using data.

I was listed in an article in card player magazine for winning a tournament and a seat in a world series of poker event. Didn't even know it till I browsed through the magazine after the world series. This would be like me suing card player for putting me in an article without my permission.

How is this any different from a newspaper publishing the results of a tournament you entered or a bar posting results on the wall? You can't sue them for that. You engaged in a public event, the results of that public event can be recorded, and people who collect and record the data can make use of it.

Of course he can sue. It's just that the lawyer is going to ask for money up front and is very unlikely to work on contingency.

You're right, I suppose if money or likelihood of winning is no object you can sue anyone for pretty much any reason...

My thoughts are that you should be banned from any tournament if you're this sensitive about being in public--for your protection, after all.

I think Mike better settle out of court. In fact, class action baby. Ship it. 30K to everyone in the FR database seems reasonable. Simple justice for reporting the scores of public events, and using that information to help promote pool.

Guys, once we get our settlement $, I think we go after the tournament directors next. They are always asking me if I won my match and writing my name down. I froze my credit but am still a bit concerned...

You are a good player, and the league handicaps match that. So what's the deal?

We are working on a backlog of support tickets with the release of our APP. We apologize for the delay. We will respond through that mechanism.

I'll make a few general comments about privacy issues here. People's privacy is important. We respect it, take it seriously, and we do not publish anybody's private information. We stand on solid legal ground under a variety of legal bases presenting the ratings the way we do -- including fair use and other protections under the first amendment.

FargoRate has a global footprint, and the field of data protection/privacy is changing rapidly. European Union has the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and California has a soon-to-be-implemented copycat version of that. A general business attorney could not possibly keep up, so we actually work with a privacy group at a major firm.

There are a few phrases we tend to hear that are misleading. People sometimes talk about "Fargo Rated Events." Other times people talk about "submitting results to FargoRate." TDs don't actually "submit" to FargoRate.
The choice for someone running an event, whether it is a weekly tournament at the local bar/pool hall or a major tournament, is whether it is public or private. A public event is one in which results are published publicly for the whole world to see. The choice for the player is whether to play in a public event. We don't publish your results. We work with already published publicly available results.

Sports scores for any public event are newsworthy. We are merely analyzing the public information like anyone else would analyze public sports scores. Given the analysis we conduct to provide the ratings, our presentation is transformative -- in other words we are presenting our own take on a newsworthy event.

We do not imply you as a player endorse Fargo Ratings. Nor do we use your name in advertisements or to sell a product.

We believe Fargo Ratings--a vibrant, live, global pool rating system--comprise a major step forward for pool, one that can and we believe will advance pool in ways we haven't even thought of yet. And we believe it is possible to do this based only on published public information.

FargoRate

I played in a league, and the league decided to give my scores to a third party FargoRate, without out my permission. Then they pulled my results for the past years and provided them to a third party. I don’t play in any league or tournament that posts they are sending results to FargoRate.

It is not right!
