Fast Cloth and Rails for 14.1 better?

Will most agree that a fast table is better to play 14.1 on? I had fast cloth put on mine the other day and I get a better spread on the break-shots, less clusters, and the balls don't freeze together near as much when one rolls very slowly into anther stationary ball. I would like to hear some opinions from the 14.1 forum. Thank you. Johnnyt

It think it is a little easier. On older/ slower cloth on a humid day, you need to be real precise on where you are going into the balls otherwise its a disaster. I'm not sure that translates into better, but I find the game a little easier on faster cloth.

Johnnyt, welcome to the real pool forum. :)

I agree for all the reasons you stated. My table is slow and I can't get a good spread on a lot of break shots unless I really slam it, and then you miss more often. A fast cloth makes the game less frustrating.

860 cloth can be fast, but in my case it's really slow. It was fast to begin with but has really slowed up over the years. Not sure why - something I did wrong, I guess (it's not humidity). The rails are also on the slow side. Next time I'm having 760 put on - that's what realkingcobra recommends for straight pool.

I also think that if your touch is attuned to a fast table you can adjust to a slow table more easily than if you are used to a slow table and come upon a fast one. Just a theory - I could be wrong.

Easier is what I should have said. Johnnyt

I don't know bout better as I'm not experienced enough. But it sounds more fun haha.

While i enjoy fast cloth and rails more, it can also get you into trouble. Balls roll into unlooked for clusters, you can roll out of position, etc. I don't know about easier, but it is a fun challenge!

johhnyt,

I would guess that most of us mortals want a "faster" table condition for 14.1. I mention mere mortals because Captain Hook has been expounding for two weeks about the "too fast" cloth we currently use. He wants a much slower condition so his game looks better. He likes his "super stroke".

I definitely prefer it. I don't get why people want to make the game harder with slow cloth. The game wasn't hard enough for you already? :) "Let me change my cloth because I am sick of running 70, I prefer to run 40"

I'll tell ya, although if a gun were put to my head I'd pick the faster cloth, ( I actually have 760 on my GCIII) slow cloth has it's good points IMO also.

I like the fast cloth for new rack break shots, and for rolling into small clusters, but the slower cloth lets you move around tighter spots without getting that one extra rotation on the CB that messes you up, and it isn't a detriment on secondary break shots at all, so there are pros and cons.

Just my opinion.

creedo,

Captain Hook developed a very powerful stroke during his formative years. One of the reasons he dominated pool for so long was his ability to drive the cue ball around the table regardless of table speed. If you watch his old tapes, he virually never slow rolls a ball. Every shot was full stroke. He took table rolls out that way. For him the game is much simpler on slow cloth. Personally, I prefer a faster condition.

I agree that there is some down to super fast cloth. I have had a lot of runs end because I went an inch or so too far with the QB. But on the other hand I had a lot of runs end on the slow cloth I had on before this because the QB came up short on position. The fast cloth makes me think every shot though. As soon as I play an "about there zone", it's the end of the run. Johnnyt
