I don't know where anyone got that it would only cost 60 grand to put one of his tournaments on. I see $450,000. Johnnyt

That could be a very good number and that just includes the planning stages. These things take time to work out and plan. If I were Fatboy after all that has happened over the past few years, I would want an ironclad plan before I put my money in it and before I put my name on it. There are so many things that can go wrong.

Ventures like this needs to involve many people and many names. I just don't see any one sponsor or name pulling it off alone.

Venues are all important and one at the best deal. People in the industry must be sold on it. It must be carefully promoted and worded ever so carefully as not to misrepresent anyone or anything. The last thing this business needs is another sham.

IMO, the next one to promote or organize a big event {events] should be so very careful about what he promises. Only speak of what you can back up.

With respect to Eric, this ain't about KT at all, it's about moving on with life. There was though a valuable lesson to be learned and one Blackjack screamed from the mountain top about, "if it's sounds too good to be true, it probably is." I'm just not convinced that American Pros have healed yet.

I hope Fatboy can pull this off and I hope he profits well from it. He will deserve it and then more than likely be very open to do it again and again.

Eric,

Why don't you and Jay pool your resources and talents to put on the biggest / baddest pool tournament the world has ever seen???

Russ.....

No response on my question yet

Eric........shoot me a PM with an answer.

Wow, to think I defended Fatboy on numerous occasions, and I get this attack out of the blue in a reputation comment:

"hi there, i dont appericate your posts here on AZ and input"

I do thank everyone for the positive rep I received, however.

Fatboy, go to hell for all I care.

I must be missing something here. If Swami is saying that the investment to pull off Fatboy's plan approximates $60,000 then I don't see why Fatboy doesn't simply launch himself headlong into this, rather than worry about whether he can make enough money to get fatter (his words). What's the reason for two more years wait, which I think was forcasted earlier in this thread - Jay Helfert's efforts would produce a L.A. Open in the upcoming year with that amount of funding, I believe. Seems that if Fatboy is the character he portrays on AZB, with his nose flared out and being a betting machine etc. etc., then there's been adequate support thrown his way in this thread to launch him. At a minimum, seems he could help his friend Jay make the L.A. Open a reality. I noticed that Jay vigorously supported Fatboy in this thread.

The above is JMHO, and perhaps uninformed; so, please don't flame me. I'm just trying to help bring things down to earth, where things might actually happen. And, no, I don't have money, sorry.

I just want to add' I pulled the 60k+ figure out of my ARSE' (for a example)i really have no idea what the cost would be..But, would be willing to bet that 60k would give me one hell'of'a start!

Fatboy,
You should check out some of the nouveau money that is being invested in the race for energy efficiency. Some of these companies will need to spend some money on PR and advertising.

I can see ZeroPollutionMotors having an ad with a pool-playing chick like OMGWTF driving the City FlowAir vehicle which gets 106 miles per gallon. VERY low pollution, using compressed air to move the vehicle. Seats 6.
No more greyhound for OMGWTF. :D

Delivery available in 2010.

Honestly the answer is "it depends".

And what it depends on is the effort you actually put into getting those sponsers, the TV contracts, the vendors, ect....

If you work extremely hard, spend alot of time and effort to talk to sponsers both big and small. Spend the time to work with the TV people to make sure the production is high quality and something that makes pool exciting to watch for both players and the general public. Then yeah, you deserve to be rewarded for that work and for the money you would be taking out as payment for all that work the work itself would pay back many times over to the players and the sport.

That said, if you were to not put that much effort in and expect the players to front huge entry fees and whatnot while few sponser, TV, or vendor dollars are added to the event, then you must keep that entry fee money in the prize payout. Pool players have for a long time put up their own prize pools and have far too often seen that money they put into the pool get partially taken by the "promoters" that do very little to earn that money.

Fatboy, you are a smart guy. You will know what you deserve by the amount of effort you put in and the quality of the event you can bring to the sport. If you were to create something that truly excels and becomes a premier event or tour the creation in and of itself can be worth something if you market it and manage it properly. Look at most major sports, individual teams are worth huge money as are the leagues themselves. The TV contracts, the huge sponsership dollars, ect... If you were to somehow manage to build something truly valuable to the sport with name recognition it is not just a paycheck that you would be getting back in return. As a tour or event grows and the payouts get bigger and the players that take part become more prestigious your piece of the ever growing pie invariably gets bigger as well.

if you can make money and promote pool then by all means i would encourage you to do so if nothing else but for the love of the game.
the pool world needs someone to make it more profitable and publisised.

sorry for the spelling errors

Steve,

what ever i said to upset you I appologise, I havent been here much since i posted this, I have been too busy working-opening a new biz(more difficult that I hoped) PM me is you like, i want to know what I did,

I will appologie now and later in public.

Russ,

Jay and I have been talking about doing something for aove a year, When I lost 95% of my monthly income last april that kinda put a wrinkle in things, I was just at the point in life that $$ didnt matter, I have the necessitys so anything going foward was just $$$ to piss away, well thats about when it ended-go figure. So I have been living off my savings and inveting in a new biz I have used $1,700,000 in cash up since april, I need to start making $$$ SOON and replace a big piece of that $$ before I can lose $$ in pool, something I wouldnt mind IF I was making huge $$ or if the pool business was headed in the right direction meaning that each year it was growing and I was losing less. But right now I can put $20,000 to $50,000 into one even and be ok, but that aint enough to really do what I want to do.

I have to come with a couple million, when I do that others will see that someone has more than a idea or talk, which is the case in pool, all the great ideas and no one backing them up just great plans with "someone" elses $$$ pool will be great with what ever idea they are talking about, thats why there is no $$$ in pool because the idea men have to step up and stop talking, $$$ attracts $$$, since I have $$$(in the long term) and know how to raise $$$ I can do what hasnt been done(or done right). I have been pitched by everyone with every idea possible-and I apperricate that but none of them wanted to come with a penny, since I wouldnt come with 100% of the $$$ nothing ever happens, now if some one approached me with them posting $$$-I would take their offer alot more seriously as its not just a good idea-if they posted, then there would be something to discuss. Only one person with $$ approached me and i didnt like the biz model, to the extent i never mentioned it. So since there dosent seem to be anyone willing to invest in their great idea, I guess I will be the one.

THIS IS WHAT IT COMES DOWN TO:

See I get pitched by people AL LEAST 5 times a week to put $$$ into their great business plan-from stores, to car washes, to pool rooms, to buying wine, stamps, whatever(its usually their hobby).... THERE GREAT IDEA AND MY $$$, WE'LL BOTH GET RICH....thats the general pitch. This is what I tell everyone because its how things work in real loife and is the truth-when I had my "idea" that was going to make ME rich-and it did, I didnt tell anyone, I wouildnt have put that business in the street for anything, what I did because I KNEW I had a lock, I sold my house, and everything but my cues and fired it into my business, almost went broke, did some real bad things to keep feeding the "idea" unrtil it worked out AND KEPT ALL THE $$$$. See in the real world thats how it works, you NEVER EVER dilute your interest, its too expensive. Cornel sanders never gave up his recipie did he, or jack danials? trade secrets arre what makes $$$ bill G didnt give up the source code for windows until the Govt forced him to give up part of it. So why put your biz in the street when you have something real???

Now I do have business partners, Jay is one guess what, he POSTS up 50% or he woulkdnt be my partner, I have other partners and they do too, I have millions in action with one guy 50/50.

Ideas, plans, are cheap what makes me different is I will post up $$$, that will attract others_WHO WE DONT EVEN KNOW YET_ to post up $$ in a "real" business plan that will involve pool. I'm nobody special, thses ideas arnt mine they are facts of business, alot of people in pool know very little about business-which is ok they are players not bussinessmen, i'm a little of both, and stronger in biz.

I'm not out to knock or hurt anyone, if what i do dosent benefit everyone I'm not wasting my time or anyone elses.

Find a business that you can enjoy with your bad back, like Pillow Top Mattresses or Hot Tubs...... or Bull Riding.

.

my back is ALOT better since i stopped the pain drugs,,,,,now if i could just stop kicking things(and breaking my foot) i might just be able to walk. Man that was dumb-I have shin splints now from walking on the side of my foot that hurt worse than the break did, i'm hopeless....

I have a couple small things i'm doing now to promote the "Fatboy" name-they will be announced very soon-just adding some $$ to existing things, better than nothing, and getting the ball rolling so people can see that I am sincer in my long term vision. I just wish the hell I was making $$ now, for myself as much as pool-its tough but my new biz is comming along.
