Another thread got me thinking. Who is your favorite in the booth? Mine would be Billy I. I learned a lot from him.

Billy I and Grady M were an awesome pair. I learned so much from listening to those two. No other team can compete with them.

Of course, maybe that's because those were my formative years. I sure do miss that era.

Buddy Hall and Nick Varner were fun to listen to as well, such insightful players, and Nick's humility is inspirational.

These days I like Joey A, Jeremy Jones does a great job in one pocket for sure.

I think a more interesting poll would be who the non-pool players like best as a commentator. Too bad we'll never know...

Def bit this English guy paired with Jim Wyche right now. He is annoying.

My favorites: Prob Jay Helfert, Schmidt, Jeremy jones and who I think is a little underrated is Earl the Pearl.

Billy I, Joey A, Scott Frost and Earl are the best and always enjoyable to listen to. I've always wanted to hear Efren do commentary, especially on One Pocket. I know his English isn't perfect, but I'd still enjoy it.

The bad ones....and there are quite a few, make me thankful for the mute button.

I like Upstate Al and Ray Hanson both. I will not forget Fast Lenny either, Lenny knows the games well and plays very strong.

I think Cotton is terrible. Also, occasional commentators like JJ are not how I interpreted this thread, but agreed that on the rare occasion he commentates, JJ is excellent.

How does Forsyth keep getting the Mosconi gig? He is awful. Matchroom put him on there just so the Euroholes can laugh at the idiotic witty southern American humor

Seriously? Jeremy Jones and Jay Helfert. Danny D. and Billy I. have worn me smooth out. For 9ball Buddy is really good also.

You know, when it comes to 9ball, some of the best commentary I've heard was from a match commentated by Jimmy Wetch. They had a Telestrator in the Accu-stats booth at the time and he'd layout what the player was going to do with amazing insight.

Billy I

Overall commentary (technical +non-technical such as players and state of the game worldwide)
Jay Helfert
Jim Wych
Darren Appleton and a few pro players

Fun commentary
Andy Goldstein

This is going to sound harsh but I think the only reason Jerry Forsyth is there is because he has a good country western style American voice. The fact is -- he gets so many calls wrong that it's unbelievable. You can't use the excuse that it's his view of the table because the other commentators do much better.

If you want a great western style voice coupled with great insight -- Matchroom and others should be calling Jeremy Jones' number. He's great in the booth.
