Favorite Ferrule Material?

Thanks Chop, now that it's out of the way.

LOL!

Yeah...I guess I really didn't answer..... :frown::o:p

Outside ivory it seems my "favorite" changes. It's not consistent.

Did I do better?

If you can find the very fine weave orange looking linen based micarta that is over 50+ yrs old pictured, you will find it has a better hit than ivory or old yellow micarta.

That old birdseye Bluegrass I sold you had that stuff on it I think. Still one of the best hitting cues I've played with.

I'd say old yellow micarta along with elforyn would be my favorites. Elforyn is what the tascarellas use for a non-ivory option and I really like it. Pretty easy to keep clean and the one I had actually had some really nice grain to it, most people thought it was ivory. Not a lot of deflection either.

White Linen Melamine. I've been using the OB+ classic shafts and I don't think I would trade it for anything. It takes all the abuse I can throw at it and is easy to clean but does get dirty again easily.

I like Juma but it has a noticeably softer hit compared to almost everything I've used.

#1 - Aegis (still have some left)
#2 - Ivorine 3 (almost out)
#3 - brown LBM
#4 - African Water Buffalo horn

I really don't know why anyone would chose to have an ivory ferrule on their playing cue. While it has become the standard for collector cues there are many more ferrules now a days that play better.

Nothing feels like a capped ivory ferrule.

Feel.
Play is subjective .
Ivory has a feel you cannot reproduce .
Sure, it makes the cue ball squirt . But, a lot of good players can compensate for that .

I agree on the feel but I have felt for a long time that I would rather give up that feel (best is debatable as I think it is too hard) for less squirt.

Ivory is nice because it stays clean, but I don't really like the way it hits.Shot with ivory for a long time, the old ge micarta as well. Really my favorite hitting cues lately have had Juma or lbm. Lbm would be my favorite, but it seems most of it is pitted anymore.
