Those four points of
Controllable Goals:
1. I will endeavor to study the table and commit to the most appropriate shot.
2. I will endeavor to execute this shot to the best of my ability without letting myself get distracted.
3. I will accept the result of the shot and endeavor to learn from my strengths or weaknesses in execution.
4. I shall admonish myself mentally whenever the focus of my desire turns toward the wish for winning, wishing not to miss a shot, good fortune, bad play by the opponent or any other selfish goals that do not accord with the goals listed above.
I have printed those out on a index card and im am gona take it to work and have it laminated and keep that in my pool case so that i can read it before i play..i was really charged when i read that...I will help me focus on what i can do instead of what i cant.. I have been practicing for the Richmond City Tournament here in Va..this will be my frist big step into the tournament world..I want to play in some major tournaments and see where i stack up against the everyone...thanks guys
Just a note that it is not easy to change desires which have become habit. It kind of goes against our nature. But by constantly reminding yourself of these goals, it will become easier, and at times you'll find yourself comfortably in a good frame of mind.
They are kind of like mantras. Need to be drilled in.
