Fels

The greatest

George Fels, IMO, is pool's greatest writer. I, like many others, always start off my read of the Billiard Digest by shooting to the last page to first read his column.

I have not read any of his books, but I will be reading them now. It is nice to see the consistent praise for Fels' work. Once again AZB strikes with good information. Thanks

You have to use "my opponent isn't looking, so this shot will come out perfect for me" english. Notice how perfect he now is on his next shot- the 9!

Seriously though, that obviously is a mistake! But, I agree that his book is great and it has helped me a lot. I have recommended it on here a number of times.

george, what english was applied to that shot on page 35 photograph 17 to get the 9ball on the other side of the 13? :grin-square:

pushout

Pushout,
Any idea what month & year of BD that 101 ways to improve is in?

I remember when Mr. Fels sampled a Predator shaft and wrote about it in his column in BD. After reading it I called the guys at Predator and ordered one for my Huebler, they asked how I heard of them and when I told them the guy laughed and said they had been getting a lot of orders based on that article. They were just a fledgling company then. Sadly I let it go on eBay some years back - probably one of the first 100 made or so. I think that people were calling to order based on George's comments though is testimony to his word being respected in the pool world.

George, (or Joe),

What book is leaning towards straight pool? I know Joe is a good straight pool player, and if he endorses it, I want it:)...

Advanced Pool is, IMHO, the best read on how to play the game at a higher level. When I read it for the first time about 9 years ago, it changed my game dramatically enough so that people in my league were asking what I had done. That, in turn, got me to get an instructor to work on my mechanics and the results have been terrific. While Advanced Pool is mostly about 14.1 the ideas in it are applicable to every other game. That alone makes it the best!

George is one of those writers who makes you feel that he's standing behind you while you shoot, helping you to see and hit just the shot. I, too, read Tips and Shafts first when every issue hits my mailbox.

George is also a very approachable guy. We've traded PMs over the years and if I ever get to Chicago, have promised to buy him dinner for an evening of playing with the master.

George Fels, you are the nuts!

I'm neither, but I think they refer to Mastering Pool. That's my take.

Edit: Joe mentions the WPs, which I read in Mastering Pool.

Also, the WPs refers to "Whenever possible..."

Bumpin this thread to push George's books because you need to read them so your game will improve.

Just took a look at Advanced Pool, this is probably what you want. Seems to have more Straight Pool than Mastering Pool.

You owe us a new book

George
How about a new book of your non-instructional articles from BD
...like 1 pocket at Bensingers,Brooklyn Jimmy and the sweet but sad one
that ends with 'and then i cried'.
[ I've got a few new friends now ,i could use about 50 copies]

Ok, I have George's article, 101 Tips to Improve Your Game, scanned as PDF files. I have successfully emailed it to three people in two emails of two pages each. If you would like a copy shoot me an email in a PM.

It's a great read.George is intelligent,informative and funny.
Many people buy Billiards Digest and go straight to the back to read
his column.

Thats me! All the way!

I go straight to the last page.[/QUOTE]

Me, too.

In addition to reading all his books, I am lucky enough to be able to see the master dissect racks first hand in our weekly straight pool league.

I mentioned before on here, I think, that the first year I was in the league, when i played George, I felt like I was in the middle of one of his chapters, watching him skillfully take the racks apart bit by bit. That really hasn't changed. He ran a 100 earlier this year. He still has it.

Kudos to george for all his does for pool.
