If a ferrule is made of a combination of plastic/ivorine and metal, with the metal part being less than 1 inch long, Can the ferrule still be a total of 1.25 inches long?
Thankyou in advance.

I don't understand your question. There is no metal in a ferrule. Where would the metal be in the ferrule that you describe...JER

He is asking about a custom ferrule. I think he is suggesting a ferrule be made from all 3 materials...stacked behind each other.

You have to be more specifc on the question your asking.

But to answer the question you have already asked.................

YES

I see no problem building a ferrule with less than one inch of metal...adding plastic/ivorine.....and keeping it a total of 1.25 inches long.

The real question is..........."How will it hit?"

<~~~ wondering why ferrules are still an inch long and longer?.........

i know the bca specs for ferrules says that if it is made of metal it can't be more than 1" in length. not sure the reason for this rule though...

Are you asking about two materials or three? Also, what is the purpose for such a ferrule? What made you ask the question?

I have made a ferrule out of something a Cuemaker gave me. I have put an Aluminum front end on it. The plastic part, had the 5/16 tennon in it already,as the original cue had a 5/16 ferrule.
The reason for the aluminum was because the original cracked at the front. My thinking is that the ali is stronger than plastic and should prevent the ferrule cracking again. The ali insert is about 5/16 long and has 5/32 at the same diameter as the ferrule and tip.
The hit is really good.
I am thinking of changing my other two shafts , but wanted to see if it was a legal lenght first. I don't mind having a shaft for home only, but not 3.
