LBM..................Linen Based Melamine

The rod is the only way to go.......

Dave
I'm telling you guys that Atlas doesn't sell the LBM rod anymore. I was told the last time I tried to order.;)

Lbm

KV -

Atlas DEFINITELY has LBM... I just recieved another rod of it today!!! Whomever told you that they no longer carried it is mistaken.

This is the only decent ferrule material on the market that I can seem to find... any other ideas?

Joey... after reading your post, I tried the G-9; it hits great, machines great, glues great... How in the h$%^ do you keep this stuff clean????? I didn't even get through polishing the ferrule and it was already collecting dirt (turned grey). Blue master soaks in like a sponge!

OK...for those of you just tuning into "Cuemaker 101"...there is a new ferrule in town...Saber T by Tiger. The most clean white, easy too keep clean ferrule ever made. The stuff is very clean....no trash whatsoever...chalk won't even stick to it. Very nice to machine & work with...try some...you'll thank me later. Looks & acts very similar to old Micarta. Just imagine some bright white "old Micarta"...and thats about a perfect description.;)

other ideas..........

Here's another place to get your rod on............
Same stuff as Spaulding Composites sells just don't have to buy $500 worth at a crack.......linen based white is what Prathers calls it.
Hard ...white and has a nice fine weave........same all the rest that you buy though you have to watch as occasionally you'll get a dark spot in one or two ferrules per rod.

It works & looks ok...but its not the strongest I've seen.;)

Will you sell me one? I want to try a Sabre T but hate to buy just one from Tiger and then have to place another order if I like it.

The price break for buying Saber T in quantities of 1 means it'll cost you $75.:D But you'll love it.;)
Seriously...pm me your address & I'll send you one for free.

Kevin .......
I appreciate your enthusiasm about the T ferrule. I'm 100% sure Tiger does also. I tried it and did not care for it. It is however, everything you say it is and maybe more. Two things I didn't like about it and it is just my personal pref. I don't like gluing my ferrules on with epoxy and I don't like gluing my tips on with cyano. The T's are TOO slick and would not hold the glues I use.

Was just trying to help out the ones liking and looking for LBM.
Different strokes.........for different folks.
More later......

I tried the Saber T Ferrule last night, and did not like the hit of it. I did machine well, but you are correct "Slick" for sure. It will not hold chalk for sure, which is great. Might give it another go, but first impression on my style of cue is the hit was not there. I bought new LBM Rod form and did not like it either Dave, it pitted just like the capped ferrules. Maybe i'm not holding my mouth right when I apply it! Need to find the good stuff ;)

dave, if you arn't using epoxy to glue your ferrule on do you mind me asking why and what you are using? and also wondering why you dont like using cyano for putting on tips with. thanks.....james

Hi James........
My pref is titebond glue for ferrules and tips. If both are properly prepared that's all I need. Ferrules are threaded.....glue leaves an absolutely perfect transition between the ferrule and the wood......extremely easy to replace should it ever be needed. Just have always used this glue on my tips since the beginning. This works well for me but certainly doesn't mean it's the only way to get it done.
Later...
Dave

LBM Ferrule Material

I did not want to hijack this thread, but I think there is some good info being tossed around here. Just to clarify, I did not buy the ferrule material (that chips out) from Atlas Billiards. Actually Atlas is sending me some today, and I will see how they cut. The older material I used was from Atlas Billiards, and like a couple of you, I thought they did not sell it any longer. I still love the hit, and the finish on the older LBM, hopefully the new stuff is the same. :)

Please let us know.

Also...if you don't mind...what was it about the "hit" of the Saber T that you didn't like? I'm just curious.
