is anyone else using or had experience with deer/elk antler ferrules?...... Mr.Varney, i would like to try one of the tiger saber t ferrules.....could you send me one? would be happy to send you a few deer antler ferrules and an elk antler ferrule in trade or just buy it outright........also i have only heard a few cuemakers opinion on capped vs uncapped ferrules, would be interested on yall's opinion on this subject.

i'm not a builder, but,,,,,,,

elk horn is used a lot in billiard cues, and are supposedly less prone to cracking than ivory. i understand that it's because of the weather under which elkhorn has thrived. mike webb put and ivory collar on one of my cues, and the hit now feels like a billard cue with elkhorn. to me, the elkhorn feels more frayed and not as ceramic as ivory.

uncapped ferrules FEEL harder. it is an impression that one gets because there is no cap, so you actually feel the hit , more than it actually being harder...makes for a rawer, unprotected-type feel. i got more action off the tenon through than not.

True. To me at least, capped ferrules hit softer. You'd think the capped ferrule would be a harder hit but not so...ferrules with the tenon all the way through to the tip give more feel of a harder hit. I often take note when installing tips on high end cues...which makers use the capped or not.;)

Elk horn or white tail/moose antler?
Elk horns are huge and have too much marrow.
Staghorn ferrules are harder and hit much better than ivory imo.
They don't break either. They have to be aged right though b/c they shrink as much as wood. I put them in the trunk of my car.:D
