Ferrules

Like all other things its all personal preference. 1/2" uncapped ivory, melamine or mircarta works for me.

you might try

a carbon fiber pad and NO ferrule. i saw a few builders on azb that were doing this , so i started building almost all my shafts with no ferrules, my customers seem to love the hit as do i. i play and break at home with the same cue, used it for a couple years, no problems.

I like juma, but I've only tried one other (Aegis II). Juma machined easily and polished up to a very nice finish. Aegis grabs foreign matter like a life vest and holds on to it like there's no tomorrow.

Any time you use a linen based ferrule mtrl., it should be properly sealed
prior to sending it out.
This generally keeps the chalk issues to a minimum.

I play with a predator so I guess I like lightweight soft junk ferrule :D

My brother has some guys that play with predator shafts and they break with them and rub the ferrules on the cloth. I can agree with soft material that they use as they wore them completely thru to the tenon.

I like a threaded capped Ivor 3 and also I just recently built a cue with a 1" XTC that I liked the hit of.

I still like threaded and capped elforyn. New micarta and LBM also get alot of use.
