I hate the Aramith Black set of balls! And I know I'm hardly the only one. It's awful even for 9-ball, but it's even worse for 10-ball and almost unusable for 8-ball. It's a monstrosity. And it's becoming more and more prevalent with it being the set of choice for Matchroom events.
So, let's see what are some of the other bad things that happened to pool in the past.

Aramith Black set is the worst thing to happen to pool since...
...the introduction of jump cues.

Carry on.

This post is the worst thing since Aramith Black….it didn’t mention the purple five ball.

Not much is worse, I think the bar no-rules rules are pretty bad, the 3 point break rule is pretty bad, jump cues make the game too easy. I think bar table players and their rules are the worst thing by a good margin. The others are more or less equal. I think I would rake out jump cues first. At least the Black set is round and plays properly, just the colors were messed with for absolutely no reason than for looks.

Is it the purple 5 or the black 9 you hate? I like the black nine, although most video quality since the time the Black balls were introduced has made ball colors distinguishable enough. On my monitor, and to my slightly colorblind eyes, the 7 looks almost green, like halfway between green and brown.

When it all started it was the purple 5. I still dislike it greatly, but it's more of a habit thing than anything else for the majority of us, I'd say. But the half-black 9 - and particularly the other, less distinguishable stripes, like the 10 - now that is a real issue that affects playability.
So while I strongly dislike both the purple 5 AND the half-black stripes, it's the latter that I feel is the bigger problem.

I definitely don't like the black 10, I think the money ball should show up on the screen well and be distinguishable. I think the black 9 is more easily distinguishable from the 1 and the cue ball than the white one. Purple 5s suck.

Agreed. I like the black version of the 9 ball because otherwise it can be easy to mix up the 9/1 or the 9/CB at times, particularly on a phone screen. The black version of the 10 ball is awful because it basically becomes indistinguishable from the 2 on not just small screens, but large ones, too. The purple 5 is also an abomination.

The black set is the worst thing to happen to pool since...the advent of TV made it clear pool is not a spectator sport.

No one has buy them or watch the events that use them, but trying something new and trying to market the game in a different way is all good. These company's that support Pool need to be supported and lots of players buy new gear for the novelty, cash in our game.
