first cue you made

That's soo funny!!!!

I still have the first one I made, it's leopard wood with two floating curly maple points between the snake patterned face grain. They look terrible and go off on an angle. I did it with a chisel lolz. It had a linen wrap but changed it to leather, the seam is just as horrid. I forgot to mention I made this gem in '88 I believe.

Leopard wood is hardly ever used in cues, but my first cue was also leopard wood. I still have it. It had a brown with white speckled irish linen wrap, but I took it off.

I'm going to redo the finish on it which is why I took off the wrap.

Here are a couple of pics...

Jaden

p.s. I'm only refinishing it and rewrapping it for posterities sake, I'll probably just hang it on the wall... It plays great and is perfectly straight, I just have a higher standard for aesthetics now.

Boy I wish I could figure out how to post pics as the wood all came from Chris

Click on the attach file gem clip looking button above.
Search for file and click upload.
Then click attach file button again and I think you are good to go.

I am not a cuemaker but have made a few cues  My first was in shop class in high school, a couple of dowels tapered and pinned together really. It has been in use now for around 35 years .... by my mother .... as a tomatoe stake.

My later cues were all jump-cues-that-wouldn't-jump .... they may as well be tomatoe stakes.

Awww Dave, that sounds like it could be a fine Children's story.

Reminds me of a Purple Heart break shaft I made that wouldn't break - hit more like a wet noodle!!!

my first attempt

was a crappy old one piece, i whacked in half, black rings and a 5/16 by 14 pin, with a brass insert. its laying over the door frame in my workshop, its really ugly, but the rings are on right and the pin and insert are in straight.
if i would have know i was going to keep the damn thing this long i would have picked out a better looking cue.

My 1st Cue

I started doing this in May of 2011, had my 1st one done in October. 1st time trying EVERYTHING I was so nervous thinking I was going to screw it up somehow. Cored holly forearm, holly butt sleeve, 4 snakewood points, thick black and white abs trim rings, turquoise stitch rings that got cut through. So instead of cutting everything apart and re-doing I used a paint marker and filled in the stitch lmao plays beautifully though, and is my everyday player. And I would never sell it. :p

This was the very first RT Custom Cue ever made. The ironic thing is it was made on a Hightower which would be equal to his Mid size of today. It was a late 1994 to early 1995. The shaft was made from a House Cue with points and the second shaft was made with the points reversed as may real old time cues had reverse points in the upper shaft coming down.

My Nephew has and plays with it now in Utah.
