Hello people, just got home from a crazy night. My friend and I went to a poolhall down in Queens, what was a race to 5 for $20 ( which is what i usually play ) turned into $100 per rack. I won about $600 bucks, i must admit i thought my heart was going to pop out of my chest, jesus i did not know gambling big money was this hard, i guess if this happens again ill be more loose.

Oh great... another big ego pool hustler is born. :D

J/K. Good job keeping your head in the game. Not only did you get the cheese but some invaluable confidence as well. Congrats.

Just wait 'til you feel what it's like to be on the loosing side of that game, it's GREAT! :)

I lost

Lost $30 on a race 9. I start out on fire but I get tired and lose focus easily. maybe I should stick to shorter races momentarily.

i was up about $1100-$1200 in $20 to $100 action in a 3 week period of time, then one night I stepped up to play a guy I knew could play I lost the first set race to 7 for $200 bad like 7-2 it was nerves, I had played that big before but the guys on the rail made me nervious-it was a rough joint, next set i lose hill-hill, i got BIH on the 6 and somehow jawed the 7 the 8,9 were in the pockets, to this day how that ball stayed up i cant figure out, nobody could. So I'm stuck $400. Then......I played his friend, now the embarassing part is I was running around with a road player and I was awalys the first player to play, DUH I fell for my own hustle thats what hurt So did the $400 set that I one 2 or 3 games in, I had no chance of winning, he didnt even laydown hoping for another set. that $800 was the worst loss ever, not the biggest but the most painful, it still pisses me off 20 years later. I had just moved from Sacramento so I where I moved to action was small and tough I ground it out and won it back but it took along time to net the $800, but the pain of getting trapped never went away. The rail did make me nervious and thats probably in the back of my mind I got out of line, I watched a friend get beat into a coma there, he recovered, there were a couple shootings a year after I went off, but still ouch!!!

congrats on winning your first time for real $$$, i got drilled the first time I played a $300 set, I took more than $300 worth of lessions out of that loss, it gets easier over time, after a while it just is normal-thats when it gets good, you can put the heat on the other guy automatically because for you its normal business, then you can swing things your way easier. But you have to stay in action regularly 3 or 4 days a week for it to be like this or if you have been playing for 20 years then nothing matters. You reslly get to know yourself when your in action, its hard to explain until you have done it, at some point the amount of the bet dosent matter, I remember when $50 action felt different that $100 action. Learning about yourself is one of my favorite aspects of action. After you get seasoned it dosent matter(if you become a $$$ player), some guys never get that way-that dosent make them less of a man or player it is just how they are. And one thing I never liked is pleyers who are good $$$ players thinking they are better than the guys who arnt good $$$ players. That isnt the case different people have different personalitys, the tough guy gambler image is jive.

Be glad you didn't get stiffed. I had a guy lose about $360, and he wanted to up the bet to $50 a game. I told him give me the $360, then will play for $50 a game. He didn't have the cash. I ended up getting his cue and about $75.

His cue ain't worth much, and I found out why he was shooting like so badly. His tip was deteriorating. I shaped it up, and it's hitting real good now. No wonder he wanted to play for $50 a game, he was probably a real good shooter, and just thought he was having a real bad night. He never thought to check his tip.

So true, I used to tense up in a hundred dollar set now I can just play like I know how and don't lose very often. Its funny now that the players that used to say "he can't play for the cash" don't say much. Jive it is jive it is.

Enraged CueBall,
Nice job. Your nerves seemed to have held up well in extreme heat. Kudos!

My first gambling experience was silly compared to yours. In 1973, I was 14. I had a 2 piece cue from Pool City in a black vinyl case. I always shot pool since I was 11. My mom and dad had divorced when I was 11, so I started working when I was 11. My mom would have no problem driving me to work, but she REFUSED to drive me to the pool hall, which was only 3 & 1/2 miles away. So I walked when I wanted to shoot. Anyway, at 14, I had my first "big money" match up. I was set to play this kid named Jack who was supposedly the best player from a neighboring high school. The 'big money" was a set of 9 ball, race to 9 for $10.00. (Don't snicker Fatboy!:D ) I went there with an air barrel. No money at all. But I did take the time to put a long piece of masking tape along the length of my vinyl case in which I wrote the words I ACCEPT MASTER CARD OR VISA. I don't remember the score, but I won. He really couldn't play all that much, so it was no big deal. Fun memory.

Jive is right, its just about being in action in LIFE or not, some trade hours for dollars others put their freedom on the line, different strokes, i'm not gonna judge, I like all people.

Gambling

I was home on leave about a month ago. I am always used to playing for $20 -100 dollar sets. I was sitting on the bar stool and the local pool hall and this guy that I know comes up to me and asks to play. I of course say sure and then he asks for the 8ball and 500 dollar set race to nine. Knowing that I had improved drastically since being deployed I said what table do you want to play on. I went to the table and grabed my cue. I won the first break and My heart started really pumping. It was like I was on an adrenaline high for the whole match. I ended up beating the guy 9-1 in 3 innings. I didnt miss one ball. I was so excited at the way I played but never realized how playing for that much money really affects the body. It was so addicting. Cant wait to get back from Iraq and start playing people again.

Wait till you start playing for $1000's

Emotions are much harder to control... and your heart will come out of your chest....

Congrats on the win

you guys want pressure? try playing a game of nine ball with $40 on the 5 and the 9. Thats pressure. i'ts ten times more pressure than playing sets. you have money on the line on every game.

I'm not a big gambler but when I do play for money he unwritten rule is the loser pays after each set. Did you know this person?
