First Major Championship for Young Gun Brandon Shuff!

I was very excited to read on AzBilliards Main Page this morning that Young Gun Brandon Shuff from Virginia won the NCS 8-Ball Championship. He pockets $2,700 cash as well as another $3,000 towards expenses for him to participate in World 8-Ball Championship in the United Arab Emirates.

It seems like just yesterday, Brandon went to his very first Derby City Classic in Louisville, Kentucky. He had never seen so much pool under one roof that year at the Executive West. He engaged in action with a Starkville player, as well as others. And he also sweated a variety of action games. When he returned home, Brandon was on Cloud Nine and high on pool.

He seemed to take on a new goal for himself when it came to pool, and that was to win a major and become number one. I saw him knock Larry Nevel in the tub at the U.S. Open one year, as well as some other top champions. I knew he was on his way then to accomplish his goal, and by golly, he's done it.

For those who don't know the name Brandon Shuff, take note of it today. There just may be a new sheriff in town. Congratulations to Brandon. I have a feeling that the BEST is yet to come! East Coast rocks!

Congratulations! Yippeeeeeeeeeeee!

Nice to see a local kid do so well!

....and I will always savor the day I beat this champion at Orange Ball 'cause it probably isn't going to happen again!!!

as an old timer watching him play last nite...very enjoyable ...and thanks for the live stream....sure don`t see much pool on TV these days ...congrats...Brandon...

I watched the last few racks on TAR last night.

After seeing Brandon do so well on the local Tiger Tour for so long, it was great to see him pull out a big one.

Congrats to Brandon.

Watched the whole live stream on TAR and you could tell that the nerves were getting to both Chen and Shuff, but Brandon was able to pull it out, Congrats Brandon and continued good luck!

Congratulations to Brandon Shuff! He has been a class act all the way and will represent the USA very well!

The play and sportmanship this past weekend was excellent!

Also a heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported the NCS, all the wonderful players who participated, the room owners around the country, TAR, OBCues, DELTA-13, the Golden Nugget, Aramith, Trigger, OMGWTF, Samm Diep, the pool media, and the forum members who believed and talked it up.

See you at the NCS 9-ball, 10-ball, 14.1 and One Pocket Championships. We hit the ground running immediately.

Be blessed,
Holly

Way to go Brandon!!! Tough job coming through losing your first match. Very strong!

Holly - it was nice seeing you on TAR. Come back to Phoenix sometime and get the 8 :)

We were watching the match at the fast eddies tourney last night, it was a great match. Although we were all rooting for chen (texas boy) im happy for shuff. Good job.

Both finalist deserved to be on the center stage last night. Chen played incredibly solid pool all weekend -undefeated to the finals and Brandon taking not so smooth route, but making his mark every round, indeed.

It was truly an amazing moment during the finals when the realization hit - that these two have fought their way from qualifiers given through out the country and beating the odds of thousands of players and here they are playing their final match to be crowned US National 8 Ball Champion!

It was clearly apparent that both players were very nervous and tired, but both played their heart out and Brandon took it down in the end.

I was lucky enough to have a little chat with the young champion after the match and I was yet again impressed by his humble and down to earth personality:) Ken Schuman also commented this is the beginning of this young man's many more champion titles to come and I second that whole heartedly.

Congratulations, Brandon!

i dont know Brandon, only heard great things about him. Glad to see him win. It was clear the pressure was on both of them as the level of play was far below both their true speed-but thats ok, it happens to everyone. I'm willing to bet that next time Brandon is in that spot he will play alot better. He did play the better of the 2 in the final yesterday for sure. I was there and watched it all. Congrats man!!! ugotaction!;)

Good job Brandon.

Next time I'm in DC ugotaction again. You are a gentleman and it was great playing you. Try not too keep me up till 6:30 am:)

Nice win from the scenic route Brandon. Those miscues almost got the best of you. Good shooting man.

See ya around and good luck in Dubai... Oscar

Brandon the new "halimaw"

Dude, congratulations!!

Good job!!

You are now a true "halimaw"!!!

Later dude,
bayawak aka tirador
You got the 8 for life!!!!

I am going to whip his arse after hearing about the miscues. He was suppose to come by and have a tip put on the week before.
I sold him the DeRoo cue back at the 2006 US Open. He still uses the shaft.
Told me on the phone before leaving that he was the favorite in this one.

I sat and talked with Brandon a little, when I was at First Break last November, teaching a pool school. He is a nice guy, definitely down to earth, and has an incredibly solid pool game...obviously!

Congratulations Brandon!
