Anyone heard or tried these things....Focus Factor, Mind Matrix, etc, etc? They are supposed to increase your focus, memory, brain power, confidence and stuff like that while also helping with anxiety and nerves. I saw an ad on the Science Channel and I'm thinking about getting them. I figure if they work why the hell not. I'm a nervous chap myself and these could help.

I took the focus factors for a couple of months. You can buy them at the drug store. They are just vitamins, at first I thought there was a difference but, after some time it was business as usual. I'm afraid there is no magic pill. Some people just have better control of their conncentration, but not me!

I've never heard of these, but they sound like something that KT would be pitching.

Well I take medication for heart palpatations. I don't need something that is going to wire me up any. I'd like to just do a big line but if I did that I would be posting from the grave.:( A nice whiskey buzz or a couple beers helps me if I don't over due it. I'm quitting smoking so damn man I need something or I'll never reach A+ speed. Maybe I'll just play alone for a while untill I get control over my nerves with exersize. I got it. I'll just do a few push ups after every other game.

It doesn't wire you up it's just vitamins, to tell you the truth tho, I wouldn't bother in case it interacts with your other medications. Perhaps deep breathing will help calm you. Since I've never been an A+ that's about all the help I've got.
Good luck!

I heard that at Cochran's (SF) back in the 60's a celebrated Southern California one pocket player used to call over to the counter man, "A glass of beer and a straight-shooting pill!" I believe they brought both over. I wonder if they were vitamin pills.

Are those what they used to call "black beauties"? I heard those pills were extremely popular back then, especially with pool players.

The best multivitamin supplement, coming from a person who is a doctor and also has a PHD in biology, is this stuff called Theragran-M. I think there is a kind for older people. He said Centrum is not as good, and is lacking in a few things that most people need, which Theragran has. Its like $8 for 1 month supply. You take 1 pill when you wake up on an empty stomach, once a day.

I tried a free sample of Focus Factor for three weeks after I got lazy and stopped taking Theragran. I didn't feel too good on them, and you have to take a bunch of pills per day. Plus, the pills are huge and hard to break in half. I choked on one and luckily coughed it up. I stopped taking them after that.

No. "Black Beauties" were either, Biphetamine-30mg, or Biphetamine-20mg and yes, pool players loved them all. 75mg. Preludins were orange and had BI62 written on them. Another popular one was 15mg Desoxin. They were small yellow pills and were very polular too.

All of the above were prescribed diet pills. I never took anything I didn't have a prescription for and the last one I took was in 1979. They did help you play better for a longer period of time but they took their toll on you too.

The reason I haven't taken anything stronger, such as the hard speed that's out there today, is that I know for a fact I would like it too much. If you are on it, as some I know are, GET OFF. It ruins families as well as the user.

Best of luck to you all and hope all have a wonderful new year.

The Theragran helped me alot, I had an iron deficiency, and after a few weeks of taking it I got my energy back and felt great. I felt I was "cured" so I stopped taking it. Later on I tried Focus Factor, and I didn't like it at all.

Ain't that the truth. Back in the early 70's I took a couple of crossroads for a long drive I had to do. I immediately had two thoughts... 1. I love these things, 2. I can never ever do any speed related chemical again. Those were only crossroads, I can only imagine what these meth freaks are going through.

As to the original posted question... there really is no magic bullet, though god knows we tried to find it in the 60's.
I might suggest as an alternative you read "The Tao of Sports" (or listen to it on books on tape). It might put winning and losing in perspective and work on your nerves that way.

Pill

I take 'Fortify' a multi-vitamin multi-mineral made by Kroger. When it had Ginseng in it, I noticed a difference in mind clarity, being able to focus, as well as being able to turn it on and off. It seems lately, that the Ginseng has been removed from it, but I still take them.

The pill they give to Alzheimer's patients also works for concentration and the ability to focus.

That pill is called Effexor...and it had no effect on my father either, who had dementia from ahlzheimer's too. :( He passed away without ever regaining the memory of who I was.
