Follow or Bet the Horses?

Back in my pool playing hay-day a big % of the action players played the horses. A lot of us went to the track a few times a week and later on to OTB. Does anyone on here follow and bet on the ponies?

Belmont Stakes @ about 6:45 PM EST today.
California Chrome is going for the third leg of the Triple Crown
Do think he will win today going 1 1/2 miles?

I don't think he will get there. Commanding Curves is my bet.

6:39 is actual post time, I believe. I think he'll do it. I wish they had OTB, at least, in South Carolina;)

Somebody might have this site confused with AZ Stakehorse, AZ Equine, AZ Harness, AZ Trotters, or AZ Steeplechase.

I got into handicapping for a little while. I went to my first ever live race a couple years ago in NY. I watched Rachel Alexandra cap off her undefeated season at the Woodward Memorial (maybe?). She lead from wire to wire...the final stretch though was unbelievably exciting!

Its pretty fun. If you bet smart and learn to read the past performances, you can do ok.

3 minutes to go!

i'm pretty sure that horse trotting sideways, isn't going to run straight.

we've had a huge debate in the past 20mins. i can't imagine, how bittersweet it would be, if i were the OTHER jockey, who stopped history....

FYI, CA Chrome's colors (purple & green), are the colors of Royalty, as well they are jewel tones. the stars are aligned!

(i need an emoticon that throws-up.)

boy, didn't DAP just SLAM the promoters on the qualifiers?!?! he is pissed.
and i agree with him.

Another triple crown hopeful bites the dust in the Belmont. Coming around the final turn in the 1&1/2 Belmont the jock asks his horse to just sprint another 1/4 mile and the horse rolls his eyes and thinks "my tank is empty fool". Johnnyt

He didn't get the best trip either...but it looked like for that horse, he should have put him in the front the whole way.

That owner after the race was an a$$hole. He undid the whole Cinderella story that had been going on for the last few weeks in just one interview.

valid point - Cinderella Story. i hadn't thought of it that way.
AND
i'm going to play devil's advocate. can you imagine how this country would have celebrated, if he HAD won? talk about PR & marketing & $$,$$$,$$$....

(now apply it to pool, to keep it related )

I'm no race expert, but I was wtf'g while Victor ran that race and I told Pinky "this ride will be debated ad nauseum".

I agree. Poor form - worst post race interview form I can recall. "Cowards!" And when his wife tried to calm him down, & he turned on her angrily & said "I DON'T CARE!"

OMG. The glass slipper shattered.

KK9 <-- wouldn't want to play that sore loser in pool

Plus he is completely wrong. If you ran it like he suggests with the same field in each race you would have a horse win the three races every other year, it would be meaningless.

The significance of the Triple Crown is your horse has taken on all comers in each race and won. That is why it is important and so rare. Each race is an event in itself, it is not a series.

Of course it is time to watch this one of the greatest sport performances of all time.

OMG I watched his Belmont like 10 times at least today...even posted it as my status to Facebook. For sure the highest gear I've ever seen in any sport ever. Just so humbling!

i get what you're saying about stamina for Triple Crown. (i was a LITTLE irritated yesterday).

but i thought he recanted during his statement, that every horse @ Belmont should have had to race, in at least ONE of Derby/Preakness? (not both).

i don't know the stats of the winner & top 4. did they meet "his qualifiers"? if so, then he's dead in the water -
