For fear of theft, Does this keep you from using your best/favorite cue at the pool h

Hello all. I just purchased my second cue. I wanted something nice and I found what suits my tastes perfectly. Everybody has thier own tastes and this is what captured my attention. Bocote construction, 6 ebony hi-lo spears with turquoise inlays up top and 6 even ebony spears with turquoise inlays on bottom. 12 ebony diamonds inlays inbetween each of the spears. Maple/silver ringwork immediately in-front of and behind the double pressed black linen wrap and another set in the butt cap which also has 6 turquoise stars?? inlayed in that set. SS radial joint which screws into wood in the shaft. Talisman med. tip. I am in love with the second cue ever owned by me. :) This will be my playing cue.

I am now realizing that I may end up with some slug trying to steal  my cue whenever I go out to the poolhall/bars to shoot. Unfortunately, along with the beauty of many of the cues out there, this beauty also brings much attention. What do you do when faced with these "minor" complications. Do you take out and shoot with your prized possesion or does the thought of somebody stealing it keep you from enjoying your custom? Do you always keep it in your hands? Do you take it to the bathroom with you? Do you??,,??,,???,,??.

Just wondering and thanx for the replies. Orlando. OH YEAH,,, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!

theft concerns

depends on the place. i have taken cues to the john with me. i have just left them standing as well and asked someone to keep an eye on them as well. depeneds on the romm. years ago cornbread in lexington, ky(probably in steepleton's or continental inn) came out of the bathroom and heard the exit door shut as his cue left! i guess it is just like they say: your mileage may vary.

I would never take my prized cue to a bar. I would take it to a pool room where I was practicing, or playing in a tournament or league. If I was just out for a night of fun and drinking, I would not take it. Once the alcohol takes over and mother nature calls, you'll turn your back on the cue to take care of mother nature and find your cue gone when you got back. The circumstances would dictate as to when I carried my prized cue or when I carry my back up cue.

No, fear of damage, the fact that I want to keep in new and since it doesn't perform the best or what I am used to are the reasons why I don't take my "best" cue to the pool hall. I have two Tads that I want to keep in new condition, so other than hitting with it once to make sure they didn't have any buzzes they are sitting in a case.

Depends. I take my favorite pool cues to my regular pool hall. I have a cheaper cue, that plays very well, to places I am not a regular.

Guys, Take your cues......

Guys -

My advice is take your cues and play with them.

Point 1. Insure them.

Insure them. If they are stolen, get your cash and get another. Obviously, if they are TRUELY irreplaceable, (ie Balabuska or similair). then I might be swayed a little. But if it is a collectable Meucci (LOL), I say insure and replace with another collectable Meucci (LOL). A nice guy here in town got his stolen, he got his check and got more.

Point 2. Battle Scars.

I know a guy that plays league with a Szamboti. I little extreme, I know. But cues can be refinished, and I feel you should play with them. I have Tad, Gina, Mottey, Pfd, Black etc. I play with them, when I get them dinged or battle scarred I send them to be refinished.

On the other hand, I have an Rambow that I never played other than hitting a ball or two.

My point is, enjoy them.

All good replys.

I take my Samsara out to league nights, but, on a team who has some nice cues themselves. One guy has a Schon, and I sometime have my Samara. But I am not drinking, and know that others will look over the cues.

Now, on my drinking/pool shooting team, I almost never bring out my nice cue, and play with Viking.

Basically, it all depends on what you feel comfortable with doing.

Getting you cues insured helps, and I also agree to enjoy the cues that you have, and to used them as was well said before.

Trust no one to watch your Cue, Case, or Stuff

Place your Cue, Case, or Stuff Under the Table you are Playing at should someone wish to take it they got to BEND DOWN to get it.

Do not be taken off guard by a Distraction where someone could RIP YOU OFF.

Yes I take my Favorite Cue, Case, etc. to the Pool Room with me, and do not let it out of my SIGHT.

When NATURE CALLS I pack up and got to the HEAD with my Stuff, as it is SAFE with me.

NO ONE LOVES your stuff as much as you do, so trust no one to watch it...

You are the one responsible for your cue.All the advice here is sound.you did buy the cue to play with, so just be carefull with it and use common sense.

I completely agree. Why on earth would you want to own a custom and not play with it? (Assuming you are an intelligent and prudent individual?)

Like just about everybody here, I have a few cues. When I go to a bar to shoot, I reach for my Meucci. Over the years it has served me well and it's endured its share of falls, scratches, and the like. When it gets ratty looking I'll have it restored.

When I go to the pool hall for practice, or for league play, I bring my Tucker.

I suppose I'm lucky in that theft is extremely rare at the places I frequent.
I've left my Predator BK at the pool hall twice, and both times it has been found by a customer who then notified the manager. The manager stored the cue for me.

The key is to be situationally aware, trust your instincts .....

Ooooh and I almost forgot.. don't get so drunk, or stoned, or both, that you leave one or all of your cues at the PH or bar. ;) :D

How do you go about getting a pool cue insured? :)

Normally a Cue and pool Stuff is considered Personal Property COVERED LESS DEDUCTIBLE on you homeOwner, or Condo, or Renter Policy.

You got a 1500 Buck XYZ Cue, with a 500 Buck Deductible you got it cover for 1000 BUCK if lost, stolen, or burned up in a FIRE.

Talk with your Insurance “Person’”.

Play With It!

I firmly believe that the more you play with your cue, the better it will play. Acoustic guitar players have long known that the more they play, the better the sound becomes. It has to do with the vibrations of the tonewoods...the more the wood vibrates, the more it 'opens' up. I feel the same goes with cues. Since most are using the same tonewoods found in guitars..maples, rosewoods..it only makes sense that the more they are played, the more the wood will 'open' up and enhance the feedback.

I have a new custom coming soon...not soon enough...but soon.;) While I do worry about it when out playing, I also watch my equipment like a hawk. And yes, I worry about dings and such, but that is what gives the cue it's 'character'. And as mentioned before, it can always be refinished relatively inexpensively.

Great advise by the Sleuth

i have a $4,000.00 cue and yes i play with it but never in a bar.....alcohol makes some people do stupid things...........

One of the benefits of quick release joints....in less than 30 sec. I can be packed up and heading for the john...after every match I put 'em away and don't leave my case anywhere but in my hands or standing in front of me....

I take my Szamboti to the pool hall and play with it.

During a large tournament a pro came over to me and pointed out to me that some guy was using my cue. After telling him it was o k,,,,,,the guy had permission to hit some balls with it all was fine. I appreciate the player was looking out for me.

I also take into a bar, but never take it out of the case. My theory on this is,,,,,,,why have the car broken into and have a cue stolen, Thats like adding insult to injury. I do keep my hand on the case close to all the time while in a bar and dont drink much at all, Also the regulars know whats in the case and watch out for it. There I play with a bar cue.

Ive been a pool hall where the people gave off bad vibes and when Id gone to my car to get my nicer cues Icame back in and found out that a cue makers car had just got ripped off.

At last, let me say, that if its too expensive or means too much to you, leave it at home.

I hear ya...

Steady, so does a guy in our league play with his Rambow every week! He bought it new for $35 and drove to Chicago to pick it up from Herman Rambow. BTW, that's the only playing cue that he has!!
