You think you know what I'm doing? That auction was a price barometer. I wanted to see what I could realisticly get for the cue.

I guess instead of "if you don't have anything nice to say..." they should have brought you up not to lie. Just another scumbag E-bayer who has friends and shills bid up his auctions. Why not hide behind the ole "I'm just 22 and it's smart business to have fake auctions" it does bring more money. You can't trust anyone anymore and E-bau is the worst place now.

Ebay does work when its used as it was developed.. to fairly market and sell an item in an auction enviroment. If you buy something and want to sell it at auction, ebay or in person, you roll the dice and take your chances. Even public auctions allow you to reserve price items and get some protection. By shill bidding you present yourself as being non-trustworthy and shady to say the least. BTW shill bidding in a public auction is also a no-no and the fines are steep.
But Ebay has a few things wrong and there are plenty of people who take advantage. People who sell one item and show a collection of 15 cues. Hey websites are cheap, WTF is up with that? If you cannot afford a few bucks a month for a website, maybe you need to reprioritize your cue dealings. Or people who are selling a Schon and put; not Joss, Not South West, Not Szamboti.. when I want to search for a Szamboti I don't want to see a God damn Schon or Peachaur.
I felt bad when I sold two cues off line and had to cancel auctions early, but things happen. Had I not traded the cues they both would have sold on Ebay. (highseas if this was you, I apologize. :)) This is why I ebay very little.
Reserve prices or setting the selling price high doesn't mean you aren't going to get any bids. If you have an item worth buying, you will get bids. Plus as someone else said, cues are very specific and we all look for them. When we see one sell and resurface a week later, we all know what happened. But the biggest reason "cheapies" don't put a higher starting price or a RESERVE is it costs extra. These are the same guys that cannot afford a site, but have 15 cues to sell.

Kind of contradicting yourself here don't you think?

Or is ending auctions on cues early to trade them off line how you think Ebay was developed to be used?

But hey, at least you felt bad, that should mean something right?

Pot, meet kettle.

Well, it's par for the course I suppose... UnpinchofGringo made his feedback private to hide his previous auctions. It will be difficult to go back and figure out all the schilling and scamming that has been going on. I highly suggest that anyone that has done business with this jerk report his fraudulent actions to ebay. With enough reports it is quite possible that they will shut down his account. I think that if anyone that represents Ebay were to read this thread then Unpinchofgringo won't be cheating ebay anymore.

Actually it won't. You can search auctions by the bidder / seller. What it will do is, if he thinks no one bids when they see a reserve, wait till he sees how much bidding goes on when someone's feedback is private.

No I don't. I listed the auctions with the disclaimer that they would / could be sold off line. Which they were, so fair waring was provided. How much fair warning does one get from a shill?

I purposely put that in there knowing some clown would want to wrestle.

But here is a free ebay bit of advice.. never bid when the high bidders are hidden. If you do, you might as well sit back with a jar of KY while you type in your bids. Always put in your max and if you don't get it, you didn't need it. What I find is when a shill or puller is finished you almost always get the off line offer within a day or two.... letter starts like this.. "oh you were the second high bidder, or my offline deal fell through...

Joe, this may be one of the few times we agree. Shill bidding is just plain dishonest and should not be tolerated. It is clearly against all the rules.

However, there are gray areas with the rules. For example, just because you openly say you reserve the right to end the auction does not mean it is in the spirit of Ebay. But it is within the rules.

That is one of the problems with Ebay, we all have different views on how it should work. Of course our views on how it should work originate from protecting our own interests. Since we all have different interests, the issue will never be clearly resolved. And in the end, none of us run Ebay so it really doesn't matter what any of us think when you get down to it.

7,
I don't have grey areas. The rules say I have the right to end an auction early and I clearly abide by the rules. Maybe you need to protect your interests and I understand that, but cheating the system is not how to go about it. Ebay makes it tough, they charge for EVERYTHING. I understand the desire to pop them for a few dimes. But in that case, use cueauctions.com, I wish more people would. If I auction anymore cues, its the only place I will consider.
We don't run ebay but we do participate in the same game, pool. We should watch out for one another (occasionally) and I think this thread clearly showed that we will, in some instances unite for a common good. If you buy a cue for 400 and sell it for 1000 on ebay, God bless you. But in the case of excess knowledge, if I found out I got shilled, and I was in driving distance, forget it.

No, it wasn't you Joe. If a seller says in the auction that the item is up for sale locally, AND has a reserve price that is not met, then I have no problem if he ends his auction early. BUT if your reserve has been met, you have an obligation to the high bidder. You should tell your local buyer to go on ebay and outbid the current high bidder, then end your auction early. This way you are not cheating ebay out of their fees, and you have not left another bidder hanging. Or you can contact the high bidder and give him the option to match the price you can get offline- either way you are being honest with the person who is bidding on your item, and you will not generate any badwill. Your local buyer will understand, and respect you for being honest.

The guy I was talking about regularly ends his "no reserve" auctions in the last 5-10 minutes or so. He knows who he is, I won't mention any names. He also has a website, and I have checked to see if the cues I were interested in had sold off line, and they hadn't. After the first time it happened to me, I stopped bidding on his cues, because I knew he wasn't going to let the auction run out. But I watched his auctions for some time, and it was obvious that he was just using ebay for cheap advertising for his website. It pissed me off, because it tied up my money for a week and I missed out on a nice Capone.

What price did you pay? You paid $1100 for a Bender Purpleheart Titlist in perfect condition: only one ever made.; only one that will ever be made. You didn't like it, and I offered to buy it back used, in a slow market for $900.

Snitch.

This is more or less correct. Yes i won the auction. The joint on the cue was smaller than normal, and the cue was originaly made without a wrap. neither of these points were clearly brought up in the auction. When i emailed and told you i was unhappy with the cue you said give you a few weeks and you would be interested in buying it back. I waited and you did indeed offer to buy the cue back, but of course there was a catch. You offered 200 less than i paid. You reasoning, you new i was unhappy with the cue and were hoping to capitlize. Great way to treat an unhappy customer. As for it being used? The cue was in the exact shape as when i bought it. And as for the market being slow? Just more of your bullshit.

You know what the sad thing is? I was going to just resale the cue myself and foreget the whole damn thing. But then you had to make me the offer and come off as a condescending asshole.

DAMN! I bought a cue from him.

I wonder if I got shilled in the auction.

Anyways, this is my personal opinion. He is honest in terms of completing the transaction, but reading everything here...wooo..he should definitely get his account pulled.

Well, you are the Donald Trump of pool cues. Go ahead and private message me so that I can sell you my Southwest and then you can go ahead and double its price and sell it. You can make a cool $1000 or two. I also have blackboar, scruggs, jensen, mottey, martinez, etc....the list goes on. Buy my whole collection and you'll make big.

I'll let you pay shipping.

you got an ernie? PM Please

I don't have time to argue this anymore. I've explained myself over and over again. What I said is the truth. I'm just trying to level the playing field. Start selling cues on ebay and you'll know where I'm coming from.

If someone wants one of my cues, make me an offer based on its value, not what I paid for it.

I don't think I like you very much.

Hey highsea,

If you are uncomfortable putting the name in print would you mind PMing the info. I just like to know who to avoid before it's too late.

Thanks,
Koop

Highsea...

Highsea,

Can you do the same for me?

I know what you are talking about, I can picture the auction layout and everything....just can't remember the name. Everytime I look at the auction, it will end before the auction actually ends.

Thanks.

Guess the lesson here is to know and TRUST the people you are going to make a transaction with.

I haven't been hurt by this guy and his tactics.....but guess what?

I won't be either.

I'll learn from someone else's mistake on this one.
