I've just reported you to ebay, I hope others have done the same.
ToughRowToHoe said:You think you know what I'm doing? That auction was a price barometer. I wanted to see what I could realisticly get for the cue.
classiccues said:Ebay does work when its used as it was developed......
I felt bad when I sold two cues off line and had to cancel auctions early, but things happen. Had I not traded the cues they both would have sold on Ebay.

Salamander said:Well, it's par for the course I suppose... UnpinchofGringo made his feedback private to hide his previous auctions. It will be difficult to go back and figure out all the schilling and scamming that has been going on. I highly suggest that anyone that has done business with this jerk report his fraudulent actions to ebay. With enough reports it is quite possible that they will shut down his account. I think that if anyone that represents Ebay were to read this thread then Unpinchofgringo won't be cheating ebay anymore.
UGOTDA7 said:Kind of contradicting yourself here don't you think?
Or is ending auctions on cues early to trade them off line how you think Ebay was developed to be used?
But hey, at least you felt bad, that should mean something right?
Pot, meet kettle.
classiccues said:No I don't. I listed the auctions with the disclaimer that they would / could be sold off line. Which they were, so fair waring was provided. How much fair warning does one get from a shill?
Joe
UGOTDA7 said:Joe, this may be one of the few times we agree. Shill bidding is just plain dishonest and should not be tolerated. It is clearly against all the rules.
However, there are gray areas with the rules. For example, just because you openly say you reserve the right to end the auction does not mean it is in the spirit of Ebay. But it is within the rules.
That is one of the problems with Ebay, we all have different views on how it should work. Of course our views on how it should work originate from protecting our own interests. Since we all have different interests, the issue will never be clearly resolved. And in the end, none of us run Ebay so it really doesn't matter what any of us think when you get down to it.
No, it wasn't you Joe. If a seller says in the auction that the item is up for sale locally, AND has a reserve price that is not met, then I have no problem if he ends his auction early. BUT if your reserve has been met, you have an obligation to the high bidder. You should tell your local buyer to go on ebay and outbid the current high bidder, then end your auction early. This way you are not cheating ebay out of their fees, and you have not left another bidder hanging. Or you can contact the high bidder and give him the option to match the price you can get offline- either way you are being honest with the person who is bidding on your item, and you will not generate any badwill. Your local buyer will understand, and respect you for being honest.classiccues said:...I felt bad when I sold two cues off line and had to cancel auctions early, but things happen. ToughRowToHoe said:What price did you pay? You paid $1100 for a Bender Purpleheart Titlist in perfect condition: only one ever made.; only one that will ever be made. You didn't like it, and I offered to buy it back used, in a slow market for $900.
Snitch.
Salamander said:Well, you are the Donald Trump of pool cues. Go ahead and private message me so that I can sell you my Southwest and then you can go ahead and double its price and sell it. You can make a cool $1000 or two. I also have blackboar, scruggs, jensen, mottey, martinez, etc....the list goes on. Buy my whole collection and you'll make big.
I'll let you pay shipping.
ToughRowToHoe said:I don't have time to argue this anymore. I've explained myself over and over again. What I said is the truth. I'm just trying to level the playing field. Start selling cues on ebay and you'll know where I'm coming from.
If someone wants one of my cues, make me an offer based on its value, not what I paid for it.
highsea said:The guy I was talking about regularly ends his "no reserve" auctions in the last 5-10 minutes or so. He knows who he is, I won't mention any names. He also has a website, and I have checked to see if the cues I were interested in had sold off line, and they hadn't. After the first time it happened to me, I stopped bidding on his cues, because I knew he wasn't going to let the auction run out. But I watched his auctions for some time, and it was obvious that he was just using ebay for cheap advertising for his website. It pissed me off, because it tied up my money for a week and I missed out on a nice Capone.

I haven't been hurt by this guy and his tactics.....but guess what?
I won't be either.
I'll learn from someone else's mistake on this one.
