Forthcoming IPT Pro-Am Team Event - $50k

I think this is just a great idea.

If I still lived in the Chicago area, I would try this out in a heartbeat. You don't even have to be the top qualifier or even the top two. You just have to make the top six! And with the race to three format, even a banger such as myself has a legit chance of capturing one of the top six spots.

And the first qualifier this weekend is being held in my home town of Addison. (sigh) Maybe I should plan a trip to visit my parents soon. ;)

I just happened to notice the last two qualifiers are in Indianapolis. For those of you in the area you might recognize the address as John Wayne's pub (i.e. for those of you not in the area a pool hall jammed full of valley bar boxes only). Am I being harsh that I find that odd?

The Lombard/Villa Park/Addison/Glen Ellyn area was my old stomping grounds as well... Willowbrook HS class of '67.

Oh yeah, this is going to be gooood baby! I'm thinking about going down there just to watch the qualifiers.

Funny thing is, the advertising for this was terrible. I did not even know about it until a friend of mine called and told me about it. The first qualifier is this weekend and I called the place and the guy told me they just barely got the posters to put up for it a couple days ago!

My friend pointed out another interesting fact. These events are all in pretty much the same area. Do you think that the guys that make it on the first and second teams are going to be the stronger players? For example, if someone doesn't make it onto the first team, couldn't he just go over to the next qualifier and try again, and so on and so on? And guess who gets the players from the first team, that's right, you guessed it, Mike Sigel. And did you notice that on the list of teams, that the stronger pros are pretty much near the top? Pretty interesting man.

Anyway you cut it though, I'm going to be following this.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me over and over again... only in the billiards industry.

I can't believe that a) anyone gives an ounce of credence to this event and b) that people are actually willing to once again throw money away on an IPT qualifier. I sure hope every paid entry comes with a free supply of KT Colon Blow.

Payouts

Quoted from the IPT website:

I read this to mean that there are 7 players per team times $6,000 = $4200 plus an additional $8,000 to the winner for a total of $50,000 paid to the winning team.

But I have been wrong before. lol

Steve

So the final event winner nets $14,000 and the other members of his/her "Team" get $6,000 each.

Creates an interesting dynamic for any moke player who catches a match against his team 'Pro' in the final tournament. Let's say the moke gets lucky and moves ahead 2-0 ..... ;-)

They have it billed as the Chicago Area Open. Maybe there will be an LA Area Open, New York Area Open....or maybe not. Johnnyt
I and others that had previously won qualifiers from their past event have been invited to play in these qualifiers. I don't think I'll fly across the country to participate. I'll wait for the LA open qualifier if they have one.
I'm sure Bobby Hunter was probably invited to play in the one he qualified in.

I didn't mean let you play in a qualifier, I meant to put you right on a team. You already won a Q. Johnnyt

Thanks JohnnyT. I think thats what they should have done. I can't see putting out the expense for a short race.

I guess all the qualifiers are over now, the main event is next weekend

Mike Sigel already dropped out and Dennis Hatch is taking over for him

I guess you talked to Lindsay too eh? And some other cool news, Loree Jon Jones will be replacing Sarah Ellersby. Loree Jon is still kinda hot in my opinion. I just checked and they have already updated the site. I can't wait to go up there next weekend and check it out.

Buying that spot on Archer's team was kind of tempting since his team is so strong and looks like it has the best chance of someone making it to the end. It wouldn't of been a bad deal if someone from his team wins it. But then I think for that to work they would of had to sell all the extra spots on all the other teams too, or else they would of had an extra guy on some teams and not others and you know someone would complain about that.

how much is it to buy a spot on the team? how did you hear about that?

I'd love to know why Mike S. back out of this. Did KT get a new boy-toy? Johnnyt

Yeah I'm interested to know what his "personal reasons" are as well. Maybe he got a look at who was going to be on Archer's team and decided he wouldn't even waste the money to come up here, lol.
