I love looking at cues. I love buying cues. I love selling cues. Anything that puts another cue in my hand, even if it is just temporary just so I can appreciate the craftsmanship that is involved I enjoy. As I am getting older, I have been finding myself wanting more and more to say something in a thread that many would consider out of line. For example: Memeber A is selling a cue at an obscenely inflated price and talks about how great of a deal it is. I want to say are you shitting me? A great price if you include a nice custom J/B and case with it. Or member B selling a cue that they say is beautiful that by all rights is uglier than 3 days of HELL. And I want to say to them, sell the cue and buy some glasses that work cause that thing is ugly as a 3 headed frog. Just curious if there is a good way to be honest or will you just get flamed for excercising your freedom of speech.
 
If you think you really need to bash a seller like that, that kind of stuff goes in a PM...not in the "for sale" thread.

That is my point. Dont want to bash but just state an opinion. Is there a way to do it where you wont get berrated for doing it?
 
I doubt anyone cares if you think a cue is 'ugly'.

Your probably treading a thin line when you get involved with someone's price. I would say even linking to a recent sale on a *very* similar cue at a *big* discount to what is being offered is still borderline behavior and you are probably going to piss the seller off.

At the end of the day your best bet is probably to keep your opinions to yourself, but look at it as an opportunity to see how good you are at gauging the market.

To bad we don't have a way to "short" overpriced cues like we could in the stock market.
 
My $0.02...

I don't think it's very cool to bash a cue in the seller's thread. If you don't like the cue or the price, don't buy it. Simple as that. If you really feel the need to insult them or their prices or cue or whatever, just send a PM. If you really feel that everyone should know how you feel, start a new thread.
 
I think beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

However, if you see someone attempting to, obviously, rip off the unsuspecting buyer, I think it's appropriate to say so in the thread.
 
I would suggest, simply ignoring the post. When you see a listing to sell and it has been bumped six times without comment, the lister will either get real or go away. Just a suggestion.
 
How about a sticky for all the suspected scammers?

THE AZ WANTED LIST, WANTED FOR BAD BUSINESS HABITS.
 
I hate when you have a guy that says hey I can only afford this much because I have two little ones etc. I have had one guy say the same thing when I have been selling a few jump break cues. I understand everybody wanting a bargain, but please use another line to try and get a deal. Just say hey this is my offer, no need to try and pull the pity strings to get a deal.
 
If you see a near identical cue at a much lower price elsewhere, I think you should be free to post about it. Especially if Cue A. is clearly overpriced while Cue B. is a fair price. If it's noticeably different, don't bother.

If someone else is selling Cue B for like 10% less... just let it be.

As for being able to say a cue is ugly... opinions are fine in the relevant forum :) (hint: this one).
In the for sale section, it's not really a place for chit-chat. Just transactions. I wouldn't post anything unless you genuinely feel a seller is taking someone to the cleaners. And even then, if possible, maybe pm the seller first. If he's ignoring you or says "yeah it's overpriced, but that's my right" you may want to privately message the buyer if you happen to know one who's interested.

This is an excerpt from our forum rules.

"Price check" threads are not allowed.

If you are going to post in another's sale or trade thread, if you are knocking their thread, you will received warnings and bans as with regular rule violations.

You have NO right to criticize or complain regarding pictures, prices etc.
Everyone is expected to participate in a civil manner and if there are violations, you may report them anonymously via the "report post " button in the upper right hand corner of each post.

Either buy from an individual or don't but knocking them is not an option.
 
If a seller is completely out of line regarding prices I would think it would be ok to politely mention that you hope the best for their sale, but their price is $300 higher than the same for sale thread from 5 months ago ... and link the for sale thread to back yourself up. Tossing out opinions regarding "you don't think that cue is worth that price" is rude and not technically allowed via forum rules.

Also, commenting on the asthetic values of a cue in a negative manner is ridiculous as far as I am concerned. Personally, I hate butterfly cues, but I know many people like them. Who am I to say that a seller isn't allowed to call their butterfly cue "gorgeous" just because I don't agree with their opinion? Well, actually, more to the point of your original question ... who are you to ask that?
 
1. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

2. Everyone has the right to establish an asking price for their items just as everyone else has to right to not pay that asking price.

3. Before you make comments on someone else's sale, remember that you may be the one selling the next item and your comments may come back to bite you in the a$$.
 
no no...no no! Pratice your freedom of speech dude. That way others will follow in your footsteps when someone tries to bulls#$t them. Basically, when someone give's you bs for more than its worth, they are indirectly insulting your intelligence. That's criminal in some countries. That's the whole problem, everyone think's they can get away with trying to rip people off or BS thier way through life, without consequence.

Artist get rejected all day long. Bring a painting to a store and see if they turn you down in a loving manner. And that's just being fair.

A seller can ask what ever they want or an item. The open market will decide what something is worth. It is not really any of your business, you are not going to buy it so what to you care what someone else does.

If you don't have anything nice to say -

Best to say nothing at all.

So - lets say you publically exercise your right to tell everyone a cue is ugly.

Lets say - I like that cue. Lets say the seller thinks the cue is gorgeous - but needs some cash.

Your comment may have just caused me to reconsider the purchase - because the resale value might not be great on an ugly cue (even if I loved the look).

How have you helped anyone in this scenario by jumping in and telling everyone how ugly the cue is?

Do you routinely walk up to the owners of smart cars and tell them how ugly and unsafe thier car is?

I don't because I was taught... if you don't have anyting nice to say......

agreed, if a seller was offering a cue for sale and either the seller was dishonest, or the cue was misrepresented either intentionally or not, AZers whom "outed" them were commended with protecting other AZers.

I think the community takes care of its own here, scammers don't last long, and if someone was unjustly attacking a for sale thread, i'm pretty sure they'd be put in their place by more veteran AZer's. I think TO SAY NOTHING on the for sale thread relays a statement to scammers that our site is open for them to list their garbage. there should be no reason that we can't comment on a buy/sell ad to protect our community.

I'm sure that the moderators can police threads on request to prevent a sh*tstorm of posts.

Your comment has nothing to do with what the OP asked. He wants to call someone a thief if in his opinion the price is more then he wants to pay. Or insult the cue is he happens to not like the way it looks. He said nothing about outing a scammer. He is just looking for support for him to be an AH, not do a public service.
