I participate in a quite a few forums around the net for a variety of sports , activities and interests.

They all have at least one thing in common :

It commonly occurs to me that the vast majority of the rest of the world is oblivious to most Forums' big issues.

In addition to that , the precision in which related details are dissected on the average forum is FAR greater than ever seen in 'real' life.

Things like 'saving' the sport , handling and running of major events , players experiences with other players , the 'spirit' of the game versus how it is today to cues and equptiment etc . . . I know I have tailored my cue interests based greatly on that. Used to be I bought what I liked , now I have quantify the purchase based on tangable facts and assesments. Used to be just fun , now it almost like work. :D These are just some of the things that non forumites know little or nothing of and could care less about. They just show up and play , looking for a good time. I wonder sometimes if that ignorance isn't truly bliss. ;)

From time to time I find myself getting bogged down when off the forums by things going on here. Pissed about this , concered about that . . . Also , as has been said by some , even playing. You get fulled with so much knowledge of pool that many people actually have trouble playing with all the thoughts of stroke and such running around in their head. :D

It's not all bad . . . Sometimes it's a big help , sometimes it's just an overload.



So my question to you all is this ,

How has AZ impacted you ? Better or worse Examples?
 
I think AZ has had a positive impact on myself. There are alot of knowledgeable people on here (pros and amateurs) that have alot of great info to pass along. Yeah there are a few bad apples from time to time and even the best posters disagree once in a while, but overall I feel that it is nice to have a forum to come to and talk to others. And it may help keep the sport alive. JMO.

Sure , but what I'm curious about is how being involved with the forum shaped your pool life ?

Here's a super simple example , would you have bought a Meucci cue if you had not read on here that they now suck ? :D Most here would not even consider one but most have never owned a late model version.

Or the deflection phenomena , how big an issue is that in the outside public compared to here ? How many even understand it ? Half the people think it's a stiffer shaft , the other half think it's a more flexable shaft. ;)

I just thought it was an interesting how perceptions mold.

No one else ?
 
AZ is a great way to meet pool players in places I travel. I have met many players in the US and other countries through the forum, then played them when I go there. I'll be meeting (and hopefully get to play) "cuebuilder" in Hawaii next week.

That is how the forum has impacted me.
 
I found out about and attended Scott Lee's Pool School (massive A++), I found out about Sniper tips that I now use and have professionally installed for a mere $15 bucks a pop.

I think most of all my awareness about the game, industry, and other miscellaneous things that make up my billiard experience.
 
I think I shoot a little better as a result of the forums, and certainly have been able to see and hear about some great matches and road stories.

I don't think I've had the overload effect etc., I always took pool seriously enough to obsess over stroke etc. and I rarely buy equipment. I've seen some interesting 'how would you play this' style lessons and I think they'll prove useful.

I was out of pool for years and I have got re aquinted with alot of people I havent seen in 15-20 years here, some I might not have ran into again because they are far away.


Its also good for the cue business, and cue makers to interact with customers etc.

its great.

its nice too for me because i'm in bad shape because of a back problem and cant get out much so its social too.
