As I have said before, I have no problem with what he is charging for these tips. The problem I have is that his ad is misleading at best, and fraudulent at worst. He is clearly using the inflated shipping to turn a profit off of these proclaimed "free" tips, so just be truthful about it, instead of trying to take advantage of unwitting members. Honesty is the issue here, not price.trendkill said:The way I see it, I paid him $5...not bad IMO. According to the link to Prather, you'd spend $2 for a single tip...then the shipping, which was $1.88 for Cuemaker to ship to me. He made a total of a WHOLE dollar off of me. I don't mind that one bit! No, they weren't free as said...but he doesn't seem to be making all that much off of these tips. I've seen cues on here that go for a LOT more than they really should IMO. Why not ***** at them for ripping people off?!
If you guys are seriously this upset about it, just ignore it. No need to keep going off on him. You've said your piece, let it go.

Fast Lenny said:Just dont say its free when its not,if you want $3 or so a tip then fine but dont advertise FREE,i can list FREE CUE and then say the shipping will be $100.![]()
Exactly my point and the cost to mail a tip or 2 is less then a $1 not $7.trendkill said:Like I said, I agree and y'alls point has been made...but I'm also stating my point. Saying $100 for shipping is a bit out there. Seeing as how it only costs a max of $10 to ship a cue in the US. At least from Tx anyway...
The point and truly valid one here is he shouldnt false advertise, list that your selling them so you dont waste peoples time.I dont have a problem with someone selling things but they should be honest and straightforward. If the intentions are to find people to try them out to buy them in bulk then dont charge them and give them 1 free sample. He can do business how he likes but believe me people arent feeling his bs business of FREE and they have spoken already and in PMs.A good idea would be to post that they arent free,$3 a tip,im sure people will buy them after trying one but not when they hear free and then find out its not. There are good people on here who do give free stuff to try out as promotion but this frankly isnt one of those deals.Ill just sit back now and watch him post another 10 threads on his FREE SUPER PRO TIPS that arent really free, this isnt how AZ should be but then again who the hell am i anyway, goodnight.trendkill said:It was actually $1.88 for shipping and figuring $2 per tip to cover his cost...what does the profit add up to?! Ahhhh...a whole dollar. You've made your point, and I've made mine...there's no reason to keep this going. You didn't order any tips from him, so there's no harm done. Let it go.
His example is not "out there," it is almost identical to the situation here. Charging $100 shipping when it only cost you $10 is a 10 time mark up. In this case if he is giving free tips, say 2 free for $7.00 shipping as in the example discussed in a previous post, then at a real cost of less than 60 cents to ship, this is almost a 12 time mark up on what is supposed to be "free" tips. These tips are not free, hence the issue. I could care less what he charges, just be honest.trendkill said:Like I said, I agree and y'alls point has been made...but I'm also stating my point. Your whole point is that it is ok to be dishonest, if it is on small dollar items. I disagree.trendkill said:It was actually $1.88 for shipping and figuring $2 per tip to cover his cost...what does the profit add up to?! Ahhhh...a whole dollar. He is not just covering his costs, he is making a good profit all the while trying to claim that he is giving them free and just covering his cost. That is the issue, deception, not cost.trendkill said:I agree with you there, but if he's only making enough to cover his cost of the tips...I don't see a need to keep up with all the trash talking. If the AZ community doesn't mind paying a few dollars for the shipping, then it's their decision...they can all very well just say "No thanks" and be done with it. Do you see where I'm coming from? I'm not saying you're wrong by any means, just think this is all a bit uncalled for.

Although it was not directed at me, have a great night as well.trendkill said:I have already agreed with you, no need to keep arguing your point.
You have not already agreed. You keep arguing that dishonesty on a small scale is ok.
I've also said that if the AZ'ers who have bought the tips from him don't like the deal they're offered...just simply don't take it. I'm neutral in this simply because there are people who are paying the $5 whether they complain or not is their problem after the fact.
You are not neutral. You keep arguing for him.
Don't accept the offer, then turn around and complain about it. Ya know?
So it is only ok to point out dishonesty or "complain" when you are the one that gets taken?
I'm sure there are a lot of great people here, I wouldn't really know...haven't been here long enough and nobody's really welcomed me to the community.
Welcome to the AzBilliards community, and I mean that sincerely!
From all the threads I've read, it seems to be friendly for the most part. Nobody wants to constantly hear about this, just like they got sick of reading the ChrisC threads. That's why I keep saying to let it go and let everybody continue their buying/selling without drama.
It seems to me we should be asking for people to stop being dishonest, rather than asking people to stop pointing out dishonesty.
Anyway, have a good night Lenny.
Mike
Ripping people off is ripping people off, regardless of the amount. What is all boils down to is that for small amounts you are ok with it, as you stated above and several other times. It is not ok with me. We can agree to disagree.trendkill said:First off, I have already AGREED with you on the dishonesty part of the issue. Second, shipping is "weight calculated"...so that doesn't exactly split the price in half at that point.
I don't understand why you feel the need to keep arguing your point like I'm not getting it. Just because I'm new here doesn't mean I can't comprehend what you're saying. No, he wasn't honest about the tips, but you and Lenny where also stating that he was ripping people off. IMO, ripping somebody off usually means making more of a profit than a dollar. I also see where y'all are coming from...
So now, can this whole issue be done with? I'm not here to argue with anybody, but I went and threw my .02 in and it's turned into an argument that shouldn't even be taking place.

Anybody can buy a box of these tips from Atlas Billiards for 50 cents each. At the quantity he buys, and probably from an even cheaper supplier or straight from the manufacturer, he pays MUCH LESS than that. Let's be conservative and guess 35 cents each. According to you his actual shipping charge is $1.88 (which is stupid and another disservice to his customers but that is another issue).
So he is charging $5, subtract his actual $1.88 shipping charge, and you have $3.12. That is almost a 9 time mark up, or 891% to be exact. All done under the guise of helping people by letting them try a "free" tip.
