Friday Is D-Day For My Pool Future

if you posters will recall, awhile back i mentioned how my pool playing future could very well be in doubt. reason being is that i work at a Naval Base here in SW Indiana, and this coming friday (May 13) the government announces the results of its BRAC findings. BRAC is for Base Realignment And Closure.

if our naval installation is on the list for closing, life is not good. have no idea what i would do, may end up in the poor house. if our naval installation is NOT on the closure list, i might have to celebrate by buying a new cue. perhaps a Schon, perhaps one of Chad Carter's Custom Cues.

just thought i would toss this out again. our politicians (local, state, federal) seem to think that things are slightly on the positive side for our base to stay open, but one never knows.

my fingers are crossed. hope i will have the chance to continue with this great sport and enjoy this fine forum and all that i have learned from you posters without the pressure of going through a base closing.

regards,
DCP

I live near Luke AFB, it it closes, PHX will take a big hit. plus where will try train F-16 Pilots Falcons?

Your telling me you put your Blood and Sweat on the line for Uncle Sam and he repays you by, closing a bunch of bases. I thought the whole Military thing means you have a stable job with steady income. This kinda BS pisses me off even though its not my country.

I believe he is a civilian

DCP and I have discussed this privately, knowing that we are both in the same situation. I'm at Naval Inventory Control Point in Mechanicsburg Pa. We were lead to believe we were pretty safe, but now that it is getting close they keep on making this announcement over the PA system that when the list comes out they will announce it. They are making us nervous.

DCP, I also would be in big trouble. There is only one word for it and that is bankruptcy. I do have one advantage over most. I'm in the over 30% disabled veterans category. They would have to completely close the base to get ride of me.

I hope you don't have to get a new job, but if you do you will and you'll keep playing pool. When the local Naval Air Base (or is that station) in my town was slated to close there were all kinds of dooms day predictions, but the town survived and the people who lost jobs got new jobs. The biggest hassles seems to have been coming up with a plan to reuse the land because of toxic wastes and coordinating the 3 towns that the base had land in (big base). Probably the people most effected were military retirees that had to go further for their benefits now.
I wish you the best in keeping the cash cow open, but don't despair too deeply if it closes.

Get real man. It's life, sad but true. Do you think employers can just eat leaves and shit some $? Not how it works. That is why you have to have something the world needs (no, pool is not it).

DCP- I am thinking that you will find a job, if you need.

not FRIDAY THE 13TH!

DCP, best of luck and I sincerely hope the base does not close (and that you find another line of work if it does). Keep us posted and keep that chin up!! :)

Dont worry about it.What will be will be and worrying wont do a bit of good. When they closed Homestead AFB everyone was worried. Now it has become a boom town with all new businesses opening.Nascar runs there and property values have soared.I hope it works out for you. With Pres.Bush running the country,I dont see too many bases shutting down in the near future.

Seeing as how I go to school in b-town I have heard a lot about the possible closure of Crane recently. If it closes it will be devastating for Monroe and surrounding counties, but from what I heard Crane produces most of the ammunition for a great number of ships in our fleet so it is conidered more valuable. Best of luck to you sir and I hope the BRAC doesn't give you and everybody else in our neck of the woods the high hard one. BTW Schon all the way.

I hope things work out for you and the town. I used to live in Victorville, Ca. when they closed George AFB in 1992, it practically killed the town. It took about the whole decade to recover and seems like the town is just now getting back on its feet. I am active duty in the Coast Guard and, the CG is acutually having a growth in both personnel and budget right now, good time to be here. Good luck to you, hope they don't shut you guys down.

DCP,

I have been trying to figure out for a while now exactly who you are since I am one of the "Shoals boys" that comes over to the Southside every now and then and plays in the ring game over there. This post giving away that you work at Crane I think gives it away for me who you are, and I also think that you have made several trips over to Shoals to play some 9 ball in a buddies basement.

Matter of fact, the last time I stopped in over there I didnt have my stick with me and you were nice enough to let me use a brand new one you happen to have with you, if I have the right person that is.

Everyone in the area is anxious about what is going to happen to Crane because it is the major source of income for a lot of people in the surrounding counties and everyone is going to feel it from the employees to the local businesses.

I feel for you and hope for the best this week since your income is directly based from there.

Tim

Tim,
hi, thanks for the response, i am gonna send you a PM momentarily. but no, i think you have me confused with someone else. i havent ever played in the ring game at the Southside, just dont like ring games, played in one once at a buddy's house, and didnt like it, especially since some people were allowed to take balls off the table???

anyway, tomorrow is the big day for Crane, hope all turns out well for the sake of all the surrounding communities.

We do still have a job, they just transfer us to a different base/post/station.

Get Yourself Pumped Up

DCP, I have lost several jobs in my lifetime. Here is how I look at it. Sometimes God wants us to move on because he has someplace he wants us to be. We just are to out of touch to realize it. Every time I lost a job, I found a better one. Every time!!!!! All ya got to do is ask him for guidance and get off your ass and search. You can't just sit there, it's kind a hard to steer a parked car. Put one foot in front of the other and go. I guarantee you, we will be laughing at this next year when you realize how little control we have. The man didn't bring you to this point in your life just to drop you. Have a little faith.
Now for the fun part.
i work at a Naval Base here in SW Indiana

What in the hell do we need a Naval Base in Indiana for? Last time I checked, you were landlocked!!!!!! LOL
Don't worry about it, everything is gonna be OK DOKEY.
Purdman :D

well, we need a Naval Base in SW Indiana, simply because its so much harder for terrorists to get to. plus this installation deals in lots of high tech stuff, and does work for every branch of the armed services.

latest rumor is we will survive, with some possible realignment. so who knows what that means???

tomorrow is D-Day.
i am ready.

Fortunately, DCP, none of the businesses I've ever worked for packed up and left. Or did they?

The accounting firm I worked for in the early 1980's left Manhattan and went to Long Island. Then I worked for JC Penney headquarters in NYC in the Finance Department in the mid-1980's, but they decided to move their headquarters to Plano, Texas, so I got a job with private bank US Trust, but they sold my division to Chase which merged with Chemical Bank which was taken over by JP Morgan, which moved my division to, where else, Plano, Texas. Now, I'm with a top investment bank in NYC, and there's talk that my department will probably be moved to Westchester.

The great Greek philosopher Heraclitis was right when he noted "the only constant is change." While we hope for a good result here, DCP, don't sell yourself shot. We humans are very resilient, and I'm sure you'll work it out if change comes your way.
