Friday Open Thread: 32 Men Left Standing

We internet US Open fans need to pace ourselves today.

The hall of fame dinner (congrats to Mika and Jose) means that the evening session will get a late start. The Friday evening session goes deep into the night every year, so if you hope to sweat the final round, plan accordingly. I reckon they'll play until 2:00 AM.

I'm thinking a nap between the two sessions today might just be a good idea for me.

who is going to be playing on the stream table at 1030, 1230 etc?I have not seen it posted anywhere.

Not shown on Accu-stats website yet, although they'll come on the air in about twenty minutes. Hard to figure.

yea think these are all losers bracket. Ill buy if the Hall match is on or the Bergman match. But still nothing.

If my math is right and if AzBilliards table brackets have been updated, there are 32 men left standing: 8 on the winners side and 24 on the B side of the chart.

Interesting that this year, there are no lady pros competing, most likely because of the China ladies pool tournament.

Here's a brief synopsis of the charts for your review:

Winners Side Matches:

  • Ernesto Dominguez v. Francisco Bustamante [How about that Ernesto! Battle of Two War Veterans] :smiling-heart:
  • Nick the Greek v. Warren Kiamco [This will be an all-out war to the finish line]
  • Mike Dechaine v. Dennis Orcollo [sjm and Jay will be sweating this one, I'm sure.] ;)
  • Karl Boyes v. Shane Van Boening [Shane will have his work cut out for him; Karl is on the warpath.]

B Side of the Chart and Last Chance for the Win:

  • Niels Feijen v. Hennessee from Tennessee, winner plays Jason Klatt [Go, Johnathan, go]
  • Raj Hundal v. K. Uchigaki, winner plays Efren Reyes [Not sure about this one.]
  • Li H.W. v. J. Morra, winner plays Darren Appelton [Darren still in it to win it.]
  • R. Geronimo v. Justin Bergman, winner plays D.H. Quan [Justin looking good!]
  • Earl v. Majid W., winner plays Chris Futrell [Look at Young Gun and Local Champ Chris]
  • C. Bruner v. A. Kazakis, winner plays Thorsten Hohmann [Greeks making a statement this year] :p
  • Daryl Peach v. H. Liu, winner plays Corey Deuel [USA, ALL THE WAY, Corey]
  • J. Hall v. J. Sossei, winner plays Nick Van Den Berg [Nick is having a great tournament this year.]

Any predictions on who's going all the way? This is a toughie. Thinking with my heart, I would love to see Hennessee from Tennessee get there. If I'm a results picker, I'd say Karl Boyes, after shutting down Darren Appelton, may be the new 2014 Open champ. Ever since last year's Mosconi Cup, he's been on a mission to be all that he can be.

Who do *you* like? :D

of all you mentioned, Dennis Orcullo seem to have figured out the break, he spends more time focusing on the break shot more than any shot, and nails the one on the side, and have a shot at next ball, as in Efren match! my prediction though is KarlBoyes/ Darren Appelton in the final! crazy, but strong hunch! i wanted to say DO, but did not come out!

I would love Earl to win but I must go with Shane, I think he will be in dead stroke from here on out. :-)

Man, you'd think Accu-Stats would post up who's playing on the TV table in 15 minutes from the time of this writing!

How can one decide whether to purchase the match?

Here is the link ---> HERE

Well, it's one of these eight that's going on the TV table. Who it is? Nobody knows. Wow! Just wow!

Gotta give a shoutout to local friends Futrell and Bruner for making it to the top 32. I know Futrell has been there before, but I don't think Chris Bruner has. Both have been great players (Futrell beat Eberle, Bruner has beaten LQ Quan and Konstantiv Stepanov). Two of the last 10 Americans left are from VA!

How delicious is that! I like it. I like it a lot.

Virginia might be for lovers, but we got some pool thoroughbreds, as well! :wink2:

A Filipino will win. I like either Kiamco or if Busty beats Ernesto than I like Busty who has the sweetest stroke of all time to win it all.

I wouldn't be surprised to see an all Filipino final 3.

I would be happiest if Ernesto wins. Oscar told me his best finish in this event is 5th in 1999.

Everybody is saying this Qatari player is going to smoke Earl, leaving him in the dust. OMG! I can smell the fireworks already.
