J Rock - you got ignored again just like they ignored you when you asked to bet more in the action room.

Press Release: 1 February 2012 - Louie Roberts Action & Entertainment Committee

In what has been the tightest race in its history at the Derby City Classic, Tony Coleman has emerged as the 2012 Louie Roberts Action & Entertainment Award Winner. Not only was Tony in non-stop playing action, he was a high-profile stake horse and game-maker throughout the DCC. AS a highlight, at one point Coleman was playing one-handed banks (his specialty) while side-betting per bank with a professional player determined to shark him. Always a crowd pleaser, when “Tony Banks” was making a game, a crowd was sure to form. And that’s what the Action & Entertainment award is all about.

Chicago’s Chris Gentile finished a very close second to Coleman in the overall voting. An annual fixture in the Derby City Classic, there was never a moment that Gentile wasn’t in action. Involved in a partners one-pocket match on the internet live stream early in the event, Gentile’s action match-ups continued to the very last moments of the DCC well after the tournaments were completed. Chris Gentile’s action-packed presence this year warrants recognition.

For winning this year, Tony Coleman will receive free hotel and tournament entry for life to the Derby City Classic. Additionally as with all of the past winners, Coleman’s image will be placed among the championship banners lofted high in the tournament hall at all future Derby City Classics.

Congratulations to Tony Coleman!

Sincerely,

The Action and Entertainment Committee

Kirkus finished a strong third in the voting in front of Danny Smith. But the other two were the two clear front runners from the votes received.

Voting is obviously worthless.

Not to throw crap on the award because it is awesome that Diamond does it, but wow is this result incredible. I would really have to bite my tongue to keep from insulting people.

I agree... What a shame this award used to be a big deal and and was pretty cool....too bad

No more incredible than some of the past winners.

At least I understand who voted for them and why. This must have been more like a "friends and family" or telethon drive vote. Daniell Hill - just doesn't get it.

C'mon. I don't know what's worse. Just remember that had someone else won, then there would be the crowd who voted for so-and-so just as incredulous that their guy didn't win.

Four different names came up this year with the same lame verbage by their cheerleaders: "If {fill in the blank} doesn't win this year, then the award is bs..."

How can all of you be right??? Somebody has to win. It won't matter how the votes are done (and sure, I can change it back to a silent vote where I pick the voters) people will still complain. And I'm sure enough complaining will simply result in the award being dropped.

It's Action AND Entertainment.

Fred,

The first thing I said is the award is awesome and would want nothing to stop it. Could just be I don't like Tony Coleman. I am not just hung up on one person that should have won it. I can think of three or four that I could at least understand ... Tony Coleman just is not one of them. I'm done because I really appreciate what you are doing and do not want to insult you or diamond about it in any way.

Guys let me put the real news out there since he won't. The person who received the most votes was Scooter!! Scooter was unable to take the reward because you can't win this award twice since you don't need another room and entry fee; would make sense and understood. Scooter was asked since he won the most votes who should win the award and he said no question .. Jason Kirkus

Let's speak quickly about the two others on the list. I staked Scooter playing Tony for 11K therefore putting big money in his pocket so he could play lovely banks for 2K a set. Gentile and Amjet beat me out of 23K so he could show gamble the rest of the week. Without my money those guys would have shown much less gamble ... Fact! I'm not knocking there gamble because they have plenty but when playing when house money it's much easier . Agreed?

But now to the disgusting fact. When Scooter said I should get the reward, the response was he wasn't here all week so he doesn't qualify. WOW! I would think the first guy to win the award by votes twice would have a good idea of what it's about and be able to credibily answer the question. Don't believe the 3rd place votes, this is the real reason. He just has to say something to end the debate. If you look up the definition of the award, I don't believe the number of days at DCC has anything to do with it. I get 10 days of vacation every year and I used 3 days so that I could spend 5 nights and 6 days doing nothing but gambling because I enjoy the Action !! The other 7 days I spend with my wife! So you rule out the guy who has a real job and reward others. The reason I could bet high and pump up the room due to unfortunately not booking any winners was because I work hard for a living. That's what's wrong with Pool today. Pool is not doing well because they have missed the Big picture for too many years and people with questionable Character are still reveered. This comment has NOTHING to do with Tony and Chris they seemed like good guys to me.

If you ask the Pool players who try to make a living on the road or professionally at this game they need Business people with money for opportunities. They pay many bills with guys like me that show a interest in Gambling and Pool. Ricky Byrd, Harry Plattis, ect. That's who these guys go see to make scores.

Trust me, I won't lose one second sleep over this award. I just thought you guys should hear what I heard. I wish everyone the Best this year and Congratulations to Tony !!

Edited after reflecting....

However I think a review should be made as who is in charge of this award.

Completely untrue.

As of this year, Scooter could have won the award twice. This has been asked many times over the past years. NOTE: This might change next year, but do a search... past winners were eligible to win it twice until Greg says differently. We are now discussing for next year whether that should be in effect.

And Scooter received votes, but nowhere near enough to even make a dent.

This certainly puts a whole new spin on the award and the word "winner."

I just want to put one thing in perspective.

Fred/ Cornerman is the messenger, more or less. Fred doesn't have veto power or solely make the decision. If I understand correctly, the winner is, for the most part, largely based on votes from actual DCC attendees. I know in years past, stream viewers got a 1/2 vote or a 1/4 vote, but anywho...

Don't shoot the messenger, guys.

I appreciate it Eric. I also want to add that I'm a sweater like everyone else.

The difference is, even though I can't believe more people didn't vote for Danny Smith this year, or Dennis Orcullo one year, or Jon Henessee another year, I also know that every winner of their year deserved it. People see different things and get soured by whatever they get soured by.

I'm the last person that wants to put false info out there. This info came from three VERY credible sources. If you're saying that the comment about how long I was there didn't affect this decision than you're being untrue. I even bet the entire week over live stream with Scooter and DeChaine. I'm not going to debate this anymore. I would much rather have my money back than this award, no offense. Hotel rooms are much cheaper :). Anyone that trys to buy this Award needs to have his head examined !! My intentions were to win this time and show tons of gamble. I've always been one that was OK being a 3 Point dog and trying to WIN !! I lost 4 Big sets double heel which was very unfortunate. If you're not willing to take a little the worst of it like Scooter and I you will never get as many games. We gamble more than anyone because we don't have to have the nuts. That doesn't mean we're not trying as hard as we can to win. I never even knew about this award until everyone three years ago asked me if I won it. I don't go to DCC to win an award, I go because I love the ACTION !! The only reason I even said something this time is becaue you guys definitely got it WRONG !! I voted as well and Tony was never even considered to be on my list. Gentile over Tony for sure when it comes to your top two ....

I have so much more I would say about this, but the thread should just die. Everyone who was involved in "Action and Entertainment" at Derby has an opinion but no reason to gripe about it.
