Jay, when you're out of stroke you better play safe!! I think Scott realized that due to greatly reduced table time he better use his head more.Dennis won 3-2. It could have gone either way. Scott played a smarter, tighter game than he has in the past.
The commentators stated this table Alex and Dennis are playing this current match online has 4-1/8" pockets. They don't appear quite that tight to me. I've seen some balls go off the rails and still go in, so I'd guess certainly no tighter than 4-1/4". I had a table that was 4-1/4" corners that we tightened to 4-1/8" corners, and you can't believe the difference in just 1/8" once you get that tight. That dennis guy is pretty good at that game.
I don't even play 1-pocket, but I truly enjoyed listening to Josh Roberts commentary of the Orcollo v Pagulayan's just completed 1-pocket match, which Dennis won 3-1. Easy to see why Josh is such a strong 1-pocket player by the way he thinks. The commentators stated this table Alex and Dennis are playing this current match online has 4-1/8" pockets. OK, new cloth can make pockets play up to 1/4" bigger, so that makes sense. It just didn't appear to be playing anywhere near as tight as our 4-1/8" pocket table that has had the cloth on it for 9 months.Ive played on it many times, it’s definitely that tight. They did just replace the cloth before the tournament.

I agree with you regarding Josh Roberts commentating - best I have ever heard regarding his 1-pocket insight for such a young player - not afraid to say what he would do, and not afraid to say when a player makes or is about to make the wrong play, in his opinion, and exactly why.I agree 1000%.
I never cared too much for Josh Roberts until I heard him doing commentary on these matches.
That guy is brilliant, has a beautiful command of the English language, and he KNOWS that game.
They, (whoever "they" is), should hire him to commentate as much as possible. I think he's a little better than Double J...and that's saying a lot.
As for Frost...he has a tendency to dog it when things aren't going his way. His mind is his worst enemy. It's too bad, because he can flat shoot out the lights and comes up with very creative plays.
Dennis is a grinder...and he just keeps on punching, no matter how much the crowd is against him or how bad the rolls go.
Those Filipinos are trained in a war zone...they're not going down easy against spoiled Americans like us.
Does anybody recall the last game? Scott made a sweet 2 railer and got shape on a ball near side pocket, which he shot in.
Question though: when he made that 2nd ball, he had a natural angle to nudge a stripe that was in the side pocket and unmakeable in his pocket. Doing so would have left him virtually the same shot he left himself with anyway.
Why didn't he knock that ball in the side?!!?.
I noticed that also....he could’ve got that ball back into play without skipping a beat.
Roberts beats all the other one-pocket commentators by a mile.
Particularly in regards to one pocket, knowledge of the game and communicating his insight as to what the player is facing with his upcoming shot, what he thinks the player should do and exactly why, and not being afraid to go out on a limb and say it when a player appears to be getting ready to shoot a shot which he thinks is going to be a mistake and exactly why it's a mistake, and more often than not he turns out to be absolutely correct with his analysis.Hi, just a newbie here. May I know what standards and/or criteria do you use to measure a commentator as good/bad. Thanks.

Josh Roberts clearly verbalized and showcased all of those skills in just a matter of a few games in last night's match between Alex and Dennis. Although I'm sure he'll be the first to tell you Alex and Dennis are both more proven players than himself, that did not prevent him from explaining why he differed in opinion in regards to their choice of some shots either of them were making in their games.
