Fs/Ft Schon Sp from runde era

"Runde Era" <> Bob Runde

Schons are great cues on their own. But I really take issue when people post a Schon as "Runde Era" implying Bob Runde had a hand in it's making. Prove that. If you check real carefully, until Bob's command ended, veneers were true underlayed veneers and not re-cut points or CNC points like they have been since his departure. When he sold his interest in Schon, the true artistic craftsmanship went with him to be replaced by CNC dull rounded points and mass production. The true veneered points stopped and the Runde Era went with him. Great price for a nice Schon and I do like Schon cues. Someone will be very happy with your cue, but please pay Bob Runde the respect he deserves and leave his name out of it. If Evan Clarke has made a true veneered cue since Bob sold out, please show it to me. Now that would be a rare Schon. I have owned Rundes and Schons, one is truly collectible and the other IMO is strictly for shooting no matter how fancy it is.... unless however if it has true veneered points ad sharp inlays making it a true Runde Era Schon.

Good luck on the Schon. If I am wrong, I will be the first to admit it. Please prove me wrong so I won't take issue with this any longer.

please clear this up auction guy

My post wasn't implying bob had his hand in on the production of this cue, only the time mark of the cue. Since you seem to be the Schon expert please enlighten us all as to when you consider the runde era to have ended. I was under the impression that he left the company in late 1992 but please shed some light for us. If he was still a co-owner of the company at the time of production would that not still be a "runde era" cue? Anyhow I bow to your overwhelming knowledge you have chosen to grace my thread with.

when i think of runde are schons i think of cues make by bob himself.

dont think this is

also that smooth leather is impossible to hide the seam

-R-(imho) does about the best leather you can get. you cant see the same with a mag. glass
he wouldnt do a smoothie for me bc he cant make the seam perfect.

he does it by hand also no machine. its AMAZING

It is obvious I am not an expert but I know that the predominant use of spliced points have not been seen since the death of the R- Series around 1991. And you are not the only one using the 'Runde Era" for cues made with cut points. You have a nice Schon.
Being fair and honest, I will post this comment that I found on Seyberts that supposedly was an email reply from Evan Clarke identifying an older pre-1990 Schon made with a non-steel joint. It implies that Evan did most of the work on Schon cues while Bob was there and he seems annoyed that 'Runde cue" like Runde Era was attributed to Bob's work. What my issue is with all of this is why did R- Series cues made with spliced veneers stop shortly before Bob left to be replaced by the SL series of cut points. Funny how the cues Runde has made since leaving Schon have spliced points and impeccable quality for someone that diid very little cue building when Evan was there. Did Evan do all of this work too?? Maybe we can get Bob Runde and Evan Clarke to set the record straight. Runde Era is cureently being attributed to mostly R Series cues and an occasional SL series that started around 1991-1992. Here are the supposed words from Evan Clarke:

"This new appelqation that people have come up with of a “Runde Schon” has no basis. Bob was not a very hands on guy, where I do about 75% of all the work in the shop myself. The cues were about $250 and when I have seen them auctioned, they bring about $400.00 or so. They have a little bit of a dead hit and when the 1980s pool boom hit we were too far behind on much more expensive cues to do this one anymore….Evan Clarke

Bob sold out in 1993. Any Schon cue made prior to that is "Runde era" and they had a full line of CNC cues in 1990 or so...here they are. Whether or not Bob physically had his hands on them or whether Evan or anyone else for that matter was involved, they are still cues that came from the shop of Bob Runde. There is no doubt that the early spliced point cues from Bob Runde are highly regarded, more sought out, and command much higher resale value, but that is not to mean that he had nothing to do with cuemaking out of his "Schon" shop for 3-4 years.

Thank you!

I would like to thank everyone for maybe shedding a little light on what everyone considers a runde era cue. I think that it is settled now and maybe I can get back to selling this cue for my friend. Any offers please let me know.

I stand corrected, eating crow. I don't think I am the only person out there that equates "Runde Era" with spliced veneer cues. It is obvous there is a definite perceived value difference. Sometimes you have to make an ass out of your elf to get a reaction and better education. I did that very well.... I think.

Here is one of the nicest IMHO spliced cues that Evan has done.... notice the joint.
