Fullsplice and rings above the wrap?

Ok, I have some orders for Fullsplice cues w/venners. Anyway One guy asked about putting rings above the wrap of his cues, and it seems to me this could be done rather easily by sleeving all the parts on. Yes, I'm going to cut the blank down to coring size and sleeve the rings, handle, sleeve, and buttcap on. This would leave the cue a true full splice and not need to have a jointing pin/joint. Any makers do this yet? and what's your experience? gluing, balance? Either way I'm going to do it, just thought it would be a cool subject, and worthy of a thread, hopefully it doesn't go south with alot of b.s.

What's your thoughts, I would like to here if anyone has done this yet?

Seems to me this would be the only way Hercek could do his segmented handles (wrapless).
 
There is more or less how Denali does all of his cues. He uses one core, and forearm, handle, and butt sleeve are all sleeves.

I think it will work just fine, I have never trued what you described above, but it will clearly work.

I built a cue awhile back in a similar fashion. I took a 29 inch piece of Phenolic Tubing that was 5/8 ID by 1 inch OD. Next I used a 29 inch of Purple Heart, and turned it down to 5/8 for the interior core. Once this was epoxied and dried, the entire length of Tubing is turned down to 7/8th OD. Once completed cored sections of wood are slide on the tubing, which will be the base wood for the cue. From this point, you taper, inlay and finish, one thing I can tell you is it is strong and solid.
 
You can certainly turn the cue below the forearm area down to 7/8th diam. ( 3/4 would be too small imo ) and make the rings with 7/8th id.
You would have to take your time b/c if it moves, you will need to recenter to maintain even points.

Obviously, my wait time is over a year right now, not to mention it will be awhile before the blanks get here so the work will take a year just to get it to the gluing stage. Funny, I had a guy stop by here on his way to the derby, and I was taking a turn on pointed forearms, and straightening points, I sometimes use Zigzag papers for shims, the guy see's that and laughs and starts asking if he can light up in my shop:rotflmao1: I couldn't stop laughing, also when ever I go buy the papers, the girls at the conv. store see how many I buy at one time, and ask if I want to go out on a date that night and to "bring the magic" :grin: Ah, the life.

Same here.
There is where inlaying the "rings" might be a better option.
 
It could be done with some creative cnc work. Mill a shallow slot all the way around the cue, and inlay the ringwork into the slot. Billet style rings would be easiest, since you could hide the seams a lot easier.
