Now you made me check out POOL SHARKS. Mike Massey needs to check out these shots.

In my opinion, the funniest is Grady Mathews. I love his commentary so much that over the years, I've copied down some of his best quips...

* "He scrutinized the multi colored spheres longer than the time I took to select my 2nd wife."

* "I want to know if you use hair color. I suspect you do."

* "I'de like to avail myself to that veteran mind of yours."

* "I'll give him a 1 way ticket to anywhere in the world, provided he stay a year."

*"What a splendid speciman of womankind."

*"That cue looks like an 8th grade woodshop project, with a D grade to boot."

*"That's his power break, which won't hurt our ears."

Grady Mathews is, in my opinion, the very best of a great bunch of wonderful commentators.
I agree with this analogy. His dry humour is not for everyone but I have laughed out loud at Grady's commentary many times.

Steve Davis is another guy who makes me bust out in laughter and he does it in such a subtle way, most people don't even get it.

Tony Drago also has a very quick wit and is very good at making humour out of any situation.

Funnest Player

David Rhodes is a world class player and is the funniest person I have ever met. He is a natural comedian.

Steve Davis on his commentaries during live games and for pocketing the wrong ball at the wrong time (during a live match on center table), that was priceless stuff ! :D

Tony Drago, always make funny stuff whether he's winning or losing.

Efren Reyes, for the Jiggy Dance ! :D

Earl Strickland, for his comment on Efren, "he's just the greatest. He's a better human being than me. a better person, a better player !" :D

Ralf Soquet, jumping the CB right in the pocket ! :D

Alex P. - player impersonator ! :D

It's TOO Close To Call

For me it's a tossup between Efren and Bustamante. Those two just crack me up. I could listen to them for HOURS.

( also Irving Crane and Mosconi .................................. and Joey A. is a laugh riot )

I knew David and played him many times, he was from the Portland Ore. area... at that time (1980'ish)he was a top three player in the North West....I never thought he was too funny when he was picking my pockets......I use to call him 'dough boy'.....:)

Thorsten Hohmann is a character so it seems, when he did the live chat on here he was a hoot!

I think he added me to Myspace from that thread on here asking if anyone had it...I say I think because there is no proof that it is really Thorsten, it may just be a fan making a page for him....I questioned him and I got a promise that it is him and some German sentences to prove it.....

anyways the reason I bring that up is because if that is in fact Throsten on myspace then his page makes him look pretty funny and fun to be around in person

That is indeed Thorsten's myspace page. He has taken great pride in creating and editing that all by himself. Any communication you may have through that page is reviewed and replied only by thorsten.

Without a doubt, the funniest pool player on the planet is Mika Immonen. Had it not been for pool, he would have definitely done stand-up.

I'm so surprised that nobody in this forum recognized this before me.

Every comic has off days, where they for some reason find nothing funny yet hit the stage or TV and yuck it up pretty good. As in all forms of life, pool players are the same,,,,,,,,,,,,,with the exception of Scotty Townsend. Every day he finds something funny and relates that to the people around him. When Scotty is ON,,,,,,,Jeff Foxworthy gets the 7 ball.

I've been around most of um in my 59 years. Here are my top funniest pool players.

1. Scotty Townsend
2. Keith McCready
3. Ronnie Allen
4. Buddy Hall
5. Dogginda9--Yea, give this guy a few drinks and hang on.

My vote is for Tom Rossman. His show is superior to most stand-up comedians I have seen. Everyone else is a distant second for me.

> I have to cast a vote for a guy some of you may not be familiar with,Marty Sawinski from Michigan. He's said to be a nurse by trade, but also does stand-up on the side. His gift is in the accuracy of his impressions. When he does Earl,Grady,Nick,or Alex,it's like watching one of the best actors in the world do them, and I'm not kidding, his accuracy is flawless. He captures every conceivable mannerism, except their strokes. He also does lines and scenes from popular movies better than anyone I've ever seen, with his personal favorites being Jack Nicholson,Pacino, and De Niro. Tommy D.

What about having Marty join AZ and visit the AZ Room at the Derby City Classic? He sounds like fun.

Sorry, I just cannot bring myself to return to New Orleans until it looks as it did BEFORE Katrina.

You will be looking like your Avatar if you wait until New Orleans looks like it did before Katrina.

There are DOZENS of MILES of HOMES and businesses that haven't been touched by renovation or cleanup. Some of New Orleans still looks like a war zone, maybe worse.

New Orleans East along the Interstate is riddled with apartment buildings that go without renovation or removal. I don't even want to think about going back down to the 9th Ward. Chalmette has some stalwart people trying to make a go out of a hopeless situation IMHO. But people from the "parish" love the parish and are going back and rebuilding, just not in the numbers that are needed IMHO.

I've got water now and electricity is to be turned on at the fishing lodge by Tuesday, God-willing and Entergy doesn't change their mind. The parish approved my temporary service pole which I had to install to do my renovation. Port Sulphur is coming back strong. New FEMA trailers are everywhere, many going unused and unoccupied. However some people have started rebuilding and putting in double wide trailers.

What I wouldn't do for a good plumber at reasonable costs....

Why did you have to go and mention about New Orleans and what it looks like for? :( :( Now I'll be bummed out for a week. At least the tournament is 2 weeks off.

I would have to say Fat's was the most fun for me to watch...all though I don't know why nobody ever knocked him on his ass. Johnnyt

I agree. Some of the funniest pool related moments I've witnessed were Scott arguing with his buddy Gus.

Unless you are from Arizona you won't know this but the guy that will have anyone laughing the whole night is James Lester...

He is instant stand up 24/7 at any time....all you have to do is put him in front of any group and say "go" and he will go off for hours of comedy.....(we have actually done that)

Just him walking into a pool room usually changed the atmosphere.

Locally I can't think of any other player that has that type of effect.
