I believe that the dog in the airplane is a Belgian Malinois a herding dog also that is very popular for all the above mentioned in that meme ha ha
Training hunting dogs is something that I really enjoy and I've had good success with black lab's that I've had in the past .

The Malinois seems to have a little better nose than the german shepherds and maybe a little milder personality from what I have seen around here. Shepherds are more likely to be used for rough work and the Malinois for sniffer dogs. I don't know if that is true, my experience is fairly limited with either one and particularly the Malinois.

I trained horses, never much success with dogs. I had yellow and chocolate labs, the yellow about as common as black labs around here and back then the chocolates were pretty rare. I sent my eighty pound or so yellow lab to a trainer a three hour or more trip away. the trainer was a little old man, about jockey size. I always detested people that started birddogging their trainer as soon as they got an animal so I left trainers alone at least three or four weeks unless I gave a quick call just to make sure the animal was settled and OK.

I went to check on the dog and trainer about a month after I left him there. "Does your dog have bad hips?" The trainer had a stock height International Scout the dog could step in if he wanted to and the trainer was picking up the dog that weighed almost as much as he did to get him in and out!

That dog could jump on top of the cab of my 3/4 ton truck if I told him to, almost from a standing start. Jumped in the window all the time. I had to wonder who was training who! When the trainer realized just how strong the dog was he wanted to train him for field trials but I just wanted a gun dog.

The Malinois are a top pick as military working dogs among the special forces, so I’m not sure about that…

The Malinois are extremely intelligent and malleable, they train beautifully to most tasks. Great dogs.
They really protect the breeding of the service dogs. It is very controlled.

There are other dogs that could function as the police/ drug dogs but for the most part they have not been managed as such.

I was told this by a professional trainer who handles breeding and whelping of the governments dogs. He also said the selected dogs in the malinois lineage are practically unflappable. They are task oriented and not distracted by the environment. He said whether it's working in a hostile environment or a day at the beach the dogs are always on point.
