I have seen videos of attempts at using jet power for human flight, but this by far and away the most controlled flight I have seen. I'd like to point out that the wing he is wearing has no control surfaces, that I could see, only a ridged wing. Watching the video closely, I could see that he was using his hands and arms as the control surfaces, probably his legs as well but his legs were not shown,up close, in the video.

I am an experienced skydiver, over 700 jumps, and I find this to be amazing.

Holy sh1t Batman! Jetman is a bad Mo-Fo! Can I get one of them at my local hobby shop? Yeah, like I'd strap four rockets on my arse and drop out of a plane...

Jetman drops out the plane, does a roll, and then hits the juice. In a matter of 2 or 3 seconds, he's well above the plane and zooming past it. What a rush that must be.

I think that it would be a rush the first time not knowing if you could get into stable flight. I can imagine that the first few (or many) attempts were totally out of control.

I believe that what you seen as him being above the drop plane was in part an optical illusion combined with the the plane descending. I have watched literally thousands of hours of skydiving videos and have seen many times a skydiver in freefall appear to be above the drop plane, due totally because of the plane descending.

A few years ago I would have loved to have tried this but I'm just to fat now.
