Speaking of parachutes.

A jumper had done his mandatory static line jumps and was on his first free fall.

He pulled his main chute and nothing happened. He then pulled his emergency chute and the same, nothing.

As he was free falling, he noticed another passing him, ascending at a rapid speed.

He yelled at him, "Hey, what do you know about parachutes"?

The guy yelled back, "Nothing, what do you know about gas bar b cues"?

What state was that in???

In Cali there are no mandatory static jumps or tandem. I jumped aff my first jump...

Wow. I had to do static line first. Can't remember how many, it was in the olden days of big round canopies.

Now, at least in our Province, you can do tandems and I believe Jump Master assisted.

The Jump Master will hold onto you until you pull or throw your pilot chute out.

Then yer on your own.

Truthfully Jaden, there are not a lot of people that could be trusted to pull their own on their first jump.

But when the weather conditions are proper, I know of guys that did all their jumps and
also their first solo all on one day.

That greatly depends on how many people have the small plane booked.

I would like to get back into it again but after these many years, I would start from square one.

I seem to pour all my money into my boat and don't know if I can even afford a used rig. Pretty pricey these days.

I learned to jump in 1970 using round modified military canopies. In those days, five static line jumps were required before taking the first free fall. On my first free fall, as I climbed out to grab the wing strut, my ripcord blew out of its pocket. My jumpmaster tried to pull me back into the plane. When I felt him grab my leg, I thought it was the signal to go, so I jumped. Very intense falling for 5 seconds. Then, when I went to grab the handle of the ripcord, I found the pocket was empty. In contrast to the common belief that the fear would be paralyzing, it was amazing how alert and aware I became of the immediate need to solve the current problem. I didn’t need to change my shorts after landing.

Sorry that my response wasn’t funny. The joke brought back old memories.
