I must agree on the " Over / under " system of coiling anything from electric cords , fiber optic cable , or any other cable or rope as it's the preferred method of coiling it for storage including home run cables to the trucks from the "shed " for camera work for whatever event you're working at .

On many occasions I've taught the art of over undering camera cable to crew members as it keeps what could be total confusion under control when you have a camera person who is a runner to get the required shots for the event .

If you were to watch the Billings PBR events from years past there's a good chance that you'll see me at work as a cable page when I'm not needed as a house camera op .
 
Please briefly describe. The way he is doing it is the only way I've done it or seen it done.
I got a buddy with a helluva set of tools and he does a figure 8 with extension cord where the crosses are centered and he tucks the ends in.

He can throw them...and when he goes to use them, he plugs the ends in and walks. No tangles! Damn extension cord wizard and beer, beer
