Always loved this story i heard through the grape vine. Dont know the place or how long ago this was, David Matlok an a few friends were drinkin at a bar, an Matlok had had quite a few if you know what i mean. Well some kid comes up and asks if he wants to play some cheap for 5 a game, so matlok looks up at the kid an says dont you know who i am? The kid says no not really y, so he said hell im the greatest barbox player in the world, and the kid said real nice like that who cares its only 5 a game, well matlok figured to bring this kid to church and off they went to play. After 4 games matlok quit because he was smashed and could barely make a ball and paid the kid his 20, and as the kid picked up the money he says, "best in the world my ass!"

Tell you what i sure am glad i wasn't there with a beer in my hand, because i would have laughed so hard i'd have died. Alot of us have been there too, too much skill at pool, but too much liquid hero eventually turns us all to a zero, lmao

Can I brag? Okay, thanks.

A few years ago in my poolroom in Inglewood a brother walked in, cue in hand. At the time I was taking on all comers on my front table at One Pocket or Banks. So I get into a One Pocket game with this guy and it turns out he is just too strong for me. I blow 200 at 50 a game and pull up.

By now, a lot of the locals (all brothers), heard I was in action, so they come sauntering in, one by one. Except the game is over. They all start egging me on to play him some Banks, my best game. They want to see us play. So we finally agree to play some short rack banks for 50 a game. As I get down to play, one of the brothers who was close to me says "You know who you're playing. It's Moto, the King of the Ghetto".

Well, I had heard the name before but had never met him, or played with him. We get off into the bank game and pretty soon, I'm hitting the great Moto with some threes and fours, and he is beginning to twitch a little. The last game starts with him running three off my break shot. We play a couple of safeties and he goes for a long railer, and misses. I run five and out! Sweet. Moto pulls up, saying no more banks with me.

The game is over and we broke even for the day, but as Moto is heading out the door, the same guy who warned me about him pipes up "Jay is the King of the Ghetto now"! Moto turns around and just smiles, and keeps on walking. We became good friends after that. He's even offered me 9-7 at One Pocket. :)

I heard Earl tell a pretty good story once...he was about 19 years old out in Texas on the road. He was driving an old beat up car and had probably about $300 to his name. He was in a poolroom playing a guy he didnt know and was up about $500. When the place went to close, the guy he was playing said, "lets go back to my house. I have a table there." You can imagine a young and cocky Earl saying, "Ok..lets go". On his way out the door, one of the locals pulled him aside and said, "hey..you dont want to get that guy on your bad side. He's sort of 'connected' ". Earl just blew it off and went to the guys house. After a lenghty session, Earl is shooting the 9 straight in the corner to go up $5k on the guy. As he leans down to shoot, the guy puts a gun to his head and says, "If you shoot that ball in, Im gonna shoot you!". Earl said he turned his head and looked at the guy and after a pause said, "Well, I dont have shit to live for anyways!" and he shot the 9 in as hard as he could. He said the guy just looked at him in amazement and asked if he needed a backer. Earl said he took the guy up on it for a while....

Wow, Greyghost has been a member here at AZB for 2 1/2 years with only 7 posts and one green rep box. His posting average is 0.01 posts per day.
Is that 1/100th of a post per day ?
I think Greyghost should post more often. I gave him rep for his post and moved him from 1 to 4 green boxes to encourage him (or is it her).

Doug
Me: GreyGhost, how come you haven't said anything for 2 1/2 years ?
GG: Well, up til now, everything's been OK.... imo

Mine isn't funny, but it is along the lines of the kid vs. the champ:

I was working in the poolhall, front table was double shimmed with one pocket tripled. I played on it 40hrs a week and it felt 'normal' to me.

Guy comes in and says he wants to play some $10 9b, I oblige and beat him $35 games ahead. Guy never asks to jack it up, adjust or change the game in any way/ shape or form. Tells me it is the first time he's played in 3 years and he wants to get back into it. Onlookers tell me he was one of the best around last time he was thru...

I see him a couple of years later and we remember each other. He offers me the 8 and gets charged $2k.

How do you get to $35 playing $10 a game? :P

Or did you mean 35 games ahead, not $35...?

This was a while ago but a cool story!!

One night up at the local bar, I was just hanging out with friends getting drunk. I was about 4 or 5 jager bombs deeps already. Then some brother dude with 4 of his friends and his girlfriend walked into the bar and just said out loud I want to play the baddest white boy here in pool and take his money. So a friend of mine heard that and came up to me at the bar and was like, you need to go play that dude over there in pool, he is calling you out. So I was like fine whatever and I walked over there and he asked me are you the baddest white dude here? and I replied with a yes. Then he said well then rack them. He wouldn't actually play for money so we played for shots and beer. We played about 8 games and I won all 8 of them and he had 4 or 5 balls left on the table each time. After each game we did jager bombs on his tab of course, so I was trashed by the end and all his boys were making fun of him for calling me out.

Then he put his arm around me and said I guess thats what I get for asking for the baddest white boy here

Good times!

Fine, whatever. I made it all up. I lied so you would think I am cool.

Joking...you are right, it was 35 games ahead. Forgot to add- dude paid his own time too!

No kidding!

I bet he saved his life by doing that. I, on the other hand, would have tried to shove his balls into his colon with my cue and run out of his house. I'd have a good chance of getting shot in the process as well.

Here's a good one for you.

I used to go to Morehead City and Atlantic Beach with my buddy, Steve. We hit all of the spots in that area. Most were bars, with two poolrooms thrown in. One night, we stop in Friends Billiards in Havelock. This fellow asked me to play some $10 dollar eight ball. Long story short.. we ended up playing some $100 dollar eight ball. We (Steve and I always went half), ended up charging him about $1600. We proceded to drink.

Next stop was about a mile down the road. They had a $2 and $2 ring game going. I jumped in. After about fifteen minutes, this loud fella with his whole entourage came in complaining about no action in this town. He quoted that he would "bust me up on the barbox and then finish me off on the big table." We charged him $400 on the barbox. He politely declined the "finish me off" on the big table part. I left my cell number at the bar and started offering the "player" the eight. We continued to drink.

Next stop was at Atlantic Beach. We continued to drink. I had my Bullshit case with me with the TS sneaky. This fella yells out, "Can you use that thing? I'll play you some for $200 a game if you think you can." $800 later, he is trying to find someone to play me. Finally he busts out with, "I know this guy Keith that comes down here some. He's a friend of mine. I just got off of the phone with One-Eyed Jacks, and he's here in town. I just happen to have his cell number. We'll see if you like that."

"How well do you know Keith?"
"We go way back. I'll stake him some. I'm dialing him, now."

My cell phone rings.

Another David and Goliath story.

I used to stake this crazy runout guy, Scott Wright. Not the sharpest tool, but man was he offensive and would play anybody. Well, one afternoon, he walked over to me and told me that a heavyset guy wanted to play some fifty dollar sets. I knew who the guy was, but gave him a buck and told him to race to seven, two sets. Scott won the first set 7-5. The guy wanted to raise the bet. "No." I said. Scott comes from 6-4 to win the second set 7-6.
"Raise the bet, man. You don't know who you're playing, do you? I'm Tony Ellin."
Scott answered, "I quit then, I can't play any champions."
