Games to play with my wife?

I give my wife the 2 out playing 9-Ball. Though I win most of the time, it got tougher after I taught her how read racks and we started playing rack your own.

Recently, I was ahead 6-0 playing a race to 7, I missed a kick and the next time I got up was when it was 6-6 and my wife broke dry (she had made a ball on the break 5 racks straight). I still won, but I was sweatin it:o .

Me and my wife play a game from the book,"the 99 critcal shots in pool" its called Mr. and Mrs. you rack 15 balls and she is allowed to shoot any ball on her turn. But, when it your turn you must play in rotation, starting with the lowest first. you keep score by what you make. Its a real challenge.

Two thoughts pulled out of the air.

8 ball: Your limit is one ball run. Every time you pocket a ball, you must play a safe next. No ball in hand for you if you hook her and she fouls. You are working on one aspect of your game every inning, she has plenty of innings every game. If you play a poor saftey a few times and she runs a couple of balls here and there she might win a few games.

15 ball rotation:
The opposite idea here. She can play safe when she feels she doesn't have a shot, but you can't (you should make an honest offensive attempt). She gets ball in hand when you foul, you do not when she fouls (she must make an honest attempt to at least hit the ball). Whoever pockets the most balls each rack wins.

My friend (a girl) and I play lots of different games together. Man does that sound funny. But anyway, I am a 7/9 in the APA and she is a 5/5. I'm pretty strong for my rating and she is not so strong. So there is a pretty huge gap in our skill levels. The APA says our 8-ball race is 5-3, but if I really bear down I could probably win 8-1 or more. In 9-ball, we usually play 11-4, or I give her the last 5. I can almost always win the 11-4 race, the last 5 requires that I am in stroke. On one magical occasion, I beat her with both spots in place. Anyway, the point here isn't to brag about how I can beat up on my friend, but rather to point out where we are at skill level-wise.

So, a REALLY good game I came up with is one-pocket 8ball. Here is the idea: You play 8 ball just like normal, except I can only make balls in the bottom right corner (near where you break from), whereas she can make balls in either the top or bottom left pocket. (She gets 2 pockets.) This is a fun game, because it teaches you a lot about safety and position play. My shape has to be great to win this game. She needs to play smart to win. It is pretty fun. If you make a ball in a different pocket, you finish your turn and spot the ball. Scratching is obviously deadly in this game. You can adjust the handicap with which pockets each player gets. The corner pockets near the rack are much easier than the corner pockets near where you break from. Try this game out.

I still like the 'Golf on a Pool Table' game, which is 18 different 'holes' that are essentially variations of the venerable many-party gambling game of 3-Ball. In the Golf version there are holes with 2, 3, and 4 balls, which have 'par' of 3, 4, and 5 strokes respectively. The game can be handicapped very easily. We let players take a ball off the table after the break on some or even all holes. It is great practice as well, imo. Many here disagree, :p to them !

In an interesting reversal, the best player spends the least time at the table, while the worst player spends more time at the table (there is an 8 stroke maximum per hole to decrease the frustration level).

all the threads

hi, ladies and gentlemen all the threads are good but i think that i have got all of you beat. i have been married for almost 8 years my wife is no pro and neither am i but i do all the work on the inside of the house, clothes, dishes, sweeping, mopping, dusting, all the cleaning and my wife does all outside work, but that is beside the point the fact is that my wife loves pool so much that i am by myself 5 nights a week because she is out hitting every tournament she can find, and i see her on tuesday's and saturdays. i ask if she was ever going to slow down and her response was "when men start realizing that women can do anything they can and i have beat all of them then i will slow down so until then i'll see you in the morning" so when your wives start doing this let me know so that i am not the only one. thanks shane

We tried this tonight and it worked out very well. First rack me 7, she 8. then me 6, she 9. Then me 5, she 10. Wait a minute, maybe I'm not as good as I think. 4th rack me 11, she 4. OK, the universe is in order, the sun rises in the east, and oh, she's tired and wants to quit.

But seriously, It was a good game. Overall she had 31 to my 29. We both worked hard. I made some very sweet one rail kick shots; never with position:mad: She made some good long shots and put together some 3-4 ball runs.

I think we will play this again.

I play a game with my room mate which starts with 9-balls.

The winner is the first to make 5 balls. I have to bank or kick in rotation while she can pot in any order. She still didn't like these odds so we extended it to her getting 2 visits and later 3 visits per shot.

Needless to say, she is a real beginner:D

All these threads are about playing handicapped pool with wife/gf/bf/friend.. how about some games to play on a date? Where the most important thing is for both people to have a laugh, some fun, and perhaps the dinner the next time:)

My wife likes very fast games, so we play hot eight when she decides to play. After reading this thread, I asked if she wanted a spot, ball in hand at the beginning of each inning. She said no, we'd just play. Whatever, I won the games and she was looking bored. I asked her again, just take ball in hand at the beginning of each inning, that way you can a few balls. She did and beat me two straight games. Now she was beginning to like this, so was I. I figured I had to run out to win so it put the added pressure on me. We ended up tieing at the end of the evening and it was much more fun for the both of us.

Thanks for this thread!

Jim
