The more I think about it, the madder I get, Fran and Bob. I demand an apology from the WPA and the UPA. In this politically correct society, people have rights and I'd like to know how this highhanded Hitler like pres of yours can issue such a phony edict. How dare you guys sugar coat his awful statements? You should be ashamed of yourselves.
I can prove how Charlie and the UPA discriminated and cheated, even against me. Where's my invitation to the 14.1 tournament? I guess it got lost in the mail again. When the invites are figured out how about a three or five person panel of neutral experts to select the field? If not that, an open meeting to determine same.
While I'm at it the BCA has people in it who never won a tournament or only one against weak competition. Now I could understand my being voted against because I've been the only thorn in the BCA's side but friends of mine who are members have tried to get me on the ballot, totally without sucess.

Grady, I do feel your pain. It is a disgusting situation, the way it currently exists with the WPA thinking they should rule the roost and ignore past accomplishments of American champions.

Truth be told, though, Grady, if you were to look at some of the BCA's Hall of Famers, what have they received for this award? Has their livelihood improved since being inducted into the Hall of Fame?

The only monetary gain I can see is when Kevin Trudeau gifted each BCA's Hall of Famer with $30,000 in December 2005 for just showing up at the IPT's King of the Hill Shootout in Orlando, Florida. So, in that regard, the BCA's Hall of Famers got some monetary gain for their great accomplishments.

As an aside, poor Earl missed that 30-dime payout by one year, poor fellow. Five-time world champion.

I don't get why the BCA Hall of Fame, though, if it is truly supposed to be representing the North America region inducts players from around the world.

In sum, being in the BCA's Hall of Fame isn't worth much, other than it looks nice on one's portfolio. But that and a nickel won't buy you a cup of coffee, Grady.

I've said it before and I'll say it again because now it is coming to fruition. The existing lot of professional players in America is dwindling. Pool as you and I know it, Grady, will never be the same. You and players from your era were fortunate enough to enjoy pool at its greatest height in the United States. Today, with the low payouts and the flippant personality of the WPA, let the blue-blooded megalomaniacs have their cake and eat it. Who needs 'em?!

My journey began with you, Grady, on this magical pool tournament trail, even though I did meet you pre-Keith in Tampa with Geese. :p

Without your intervention, things may have turned out quite different for me and Keith. That phone call you made to Vegas, during those long summer months, comes to mind!

My pool journey with Keith kind of began here, represented in this picture. Man, look at how we all used to be so happy! Remember those days? Going to the tournaments used to be so much fun!

None of us can change the world but we can me miserable looking at that world and finding big-time problems everywhere.

All we can do is do what we can to make it better. Making the lives of others better is where it has to start and that means sending every person you meet today a message that they are appreciated. Give some warmth to the world. That's all we can do. Staying miserable because the world is a mess is not the move to make.... unless a guy likes to be miserable. I used to be miserable. I decided to stop it. I now look for the good and feel better because I can always... ALWAYS find some good. I can also always find misery with which I can commiserate. It's just a choice.

Pool's future? Play a few game with a friend. Have some fun. Cuss and laugh and learn some new shots. Have a tournament. Make it a dammed good one and
enjoy the game and the players. Screw the politics. Just play some pool.

No disrespect meant, but for the upper level players, this doesn't really help. Only drastic changes. A real tour. Minor league tours. Grady, thanks for everything you have already done, and any further efforts.

Thanks

Thanks, Jam and everyone else. Look, I know my angst probably isn't going to do any good. It does make me sleep better at night to properly express my feelings.

Grady, I totally agree with you...100%. Every single word. I mean, according to them, you have zero world titles....right? Don't be fraught with peril, however.... ;)..... Sigel, Varner, Hopkins and the others are in your boat too.

Hey, if telling the WPA to bl0w you makes you sleep at night. Go ahead, Grady....let it out. Let's REALLY hear it. Deep down, I think you're sugar coating your true feelings. Ya know, I'm laying here in bed right now thinking about what I'd say if I spent my life as not only a pro--- but as multi-time world champion such as yourself.... and some pompous organization basically said I wasn't because they weren't around and they didn't recognize single events calling themselves "world-championships."

What I would say isn't what you're saying, that's for sure. Well ya know, when you're getting pulled over by a cop and you KNOW you're getting a ticket.... why not get your $200 worth.

Let it out Grady--- pretend this doll was Charlie Williams or the WPA president......

What they did would be like stripping past Olympic Champions of their medals because not all countries were represented.

Best post yet on the subject. I didn't see Europe running world championships at the time. Can't fault someone for trying. We DID have the strongest field on planet earth during those events. Don't get me wrong, I'm not euro-bashing. Heck, now... I'm euro-envious on what they have there as far as a tour. However, in the 70's and 80's --- we were where the party was at--- and everyone inside of the Kuiper Belt knows that.

Grady,
Have you noticed that you probably get 50 or more positive and nicely worded posts to every one that would give you a hard time? There's reasons for that, my friend. Look at all the great accolades bestowed upon you by your many fans all the years you've posted here. Think on that whenever you're tossing and turning (not "bouncing") in bed.

Also, take the time to read post #7 and #9 again. Tell the truth...didn't you laugh out loud? You got some great fans here who love you a lot.

Good night buddy!

Grady,

It is a pure shame that you didn't and don't receive annual invitations.

Everyone knows the famous Mike Sigel 150 and our Accu-stats tape that is very popular. That is NOT my favorite Accu-stats tape.

My favorite Accu-stats tape was from a tournament that Grady was running, and playing in. In this tape he was playing against Dallas West. Grady's run was over 100...maybe around 120 or so if I remember correctly. During the entire run the balls just never cooperated....but Grady was making shots from everywhere. He was making hard, jacked up, off-angle banks...I mean he was relentless. Billy Incardona was singing his praises during the entire run, and man it was an exciting match to watch. Of course, Grady won this match quite handily as he ran it out in his 2nd or 3rd inning. He did have an inning or two of safety play. Now that was some awesome, exciting, and inspiring straight pool play!!

Grady, just know that you can share your feelings here. In general......politics suck.

The funny thing about pool is, these organizations are essentially worthless. Anyone with the right amount of cash can put on a world-class tournament with a nice payout and they don't need any kind of permission from a professional organization. I don't know if it is really funny, or sad actually.

You can always put on an awesome event at your pool room anytime you like, and show them how it is really done!

Good luck.

Grady, I totally agree with you on this one. Just because not every country wasn't represented at these tournaments doens't mean that they weren't world championships. Could other countries have been represented? They were open events...of course they could have been. Using that excuse doesn't hold any water.

Dave...great post...but your avatar is just ever so disturbing. Especially for an arachniphobe like myself. :o
