Get Rid of that Measle Ball!

The type of chalk makes a huge difference on the marks. Kamui chalk hands down is the worst, when talking about the measle ball. The finish of the measle ball dulls the quickest. The CB that seems to stay the Cleanest and stays shinier seems to be the cyclop cb. I have the aramith tournament set as well and it does a better job than the super pro. It still dulls quicker than the cyclop.

Weight differences are not too different but the materials of each type of cb is substantial. That's what makes them play so different. But I do agree, the measle ball does dirty the easiest, especially with kamui chalk

They are playing in high humidity=chalk sticks to CB. You're right though...Kamui is the worst and the training ball is also the worst for it to cling to. Johnnyt

I own a blue circle, red circle and measle cue ball....personally, I think y'all are wayyyy over thinking it. You must be able to adapt to all ball and table conditions. Unfortunately, pristine equipment is not the norm.

I agree 100 percent.. Do I feel a difference between the measle ball and the red circle ..yes. Not sure why but I do but you let me shoot a couple racks with it and I'll forget all about it and adapt. This game is about adjustments.

Once play starts nothing should be cleaned.

You want the fast cloth. You want the stickiest chalk. Eat after a couple racks. Then see who can really out play and who can still shoot straight. The straight shooter will cry his eyes out. The money player will correct. The money players are used to winning with whatever.
The straight shooter not so much. They do cry the best.
Nick :)

So what is it about this "practice ball" that keeps you from performing as well? Does its weight being closer to an object ball really cause you not to be able to play well?

Heard, but not tested. Throwing about baseless 'facts' without proof. You are gullible.

It is not baseless at all, go look around at the numbers put out by those selling them and it shows 6 oz. as the weight for red circle, aramaith red logo and measle ball but people on this forum keep saying the measle is heavier so who is gullible and putting out misinformation? It is not about the weight that I am talking about here anyway but the coating on the measle ball which seems to pick up more chalk then others along with the dots being just plain annoying. Sorry but I do not need the dots on the ball to tell me which English I applied nor when I am watching someone else play, its fairly obvious.

Increased smudges on the CB is directly related to the use of Kamui chalk......increases skids or kicks and slows the CB down, esp on center draw shots.

I believe Kamui chalk does cause more smudges from what I have seen but the measle ball also seems to pick it up more then say the red circle.

For those saying the red circle is lighter, Aramith says its 6 oz. just like measle cue ball. Perhaps the red circle ball some are playing with is a knockoff so it is lighter, there are measle balls that are knockoffs too and those seem to hold the chalk more so and the ball stains.

Gullible. You notice Aramith also states that the weight can vary. All the people who have weighed the balls here on AZB have always had the same conclusion. The Red Dot(not circle) and the Measles ball are both the same ball, and weigh closer to the object ball weights for the Super Pro/TV sets. The Red Circle is the Premier set ball, and as such is made out of the same material as them. It's easier to advertise something as a certain weight than having to go through each product, changing the printed label to match the proper weight exactly. The Red Circle weighs less, based on all the people who own each different balls reported weight. Don't argue marketing when the facts are right in front of you. You just have to look at them.

seems like this would be a pretty simple experiment to prove/disprove all these theories

This subject has been beaten to death, and several posters have weighed different balls. Most of the people saying the measles ball is heavier or plays heavier are going by nothing more than "feel." For all that it's worth.

My personal experience? The measles ball plays fine. Plays like a regular cue ball. The red circle? Wonky. Way too much action. Draws ridiculously easy, and follows through way too much. The only comparable ball I've played with would be the Aramith coin OP ball (green Aramith logo), which easily has a lot of action, but is still more controllable than the red circle.

Weights can vary you are right but is it much of a difference that you will notice by holding them both in your hand?, very doubtful. So you tell me I am gullible again but you are believing reported weights from people you have never met over the manufacturer? Things that make you go hmmm...

P.S. Maybe I will take my scale and weigh some red circles and measle cue balls at the poolroom and get the answer for myself.

I weighed the Measles ball I have, it matched the weighed reported by many others. Things that do make you go hmm....:rolleyes:

You should have said you weighed it in the first place instead of saying "all the people". :p

Did you by chance weigh the red circle?

I only own a Measles ball. I didn't think I needed to say I weighed mine, as I wasn't a person who reported their findings on these forums. I figure you would of at least used the search function to read up on the ball differences before you trash something you, it turns out, know nothing about.

I am trashing it because the look of it is annoying much like your postings and from my personal experience it picks up more chalk which is what this thread is about. If it weighs more or less then other cue balls really does not make a huge difference to me but people on the forum like to point out that is the reason they use it because they claim it is heavier then the red circle. I just think a cue ball without dots that does not pick up chalk easily would be wonderful for the game.
