Played a bit yesterday.....I was in a game and this is what my opponent left me. just 3 balls left on the table. i had a very comfortable lead and i was feeling good about getting cute to make a better break shot.

I stepped to the table with the cueball in hand because he scratched.

I shot the 5 first and followed up to have the 10 - 1 combo, i cut the one a little so the 10 would carom off and be a BB. then shot the 15 ball CB 2 rails to the break shot !!!

Just me having some fun !

Frivolous and dangerous for sure, but creative, insightful, and well executed,

Nicely played.

Yeah i am a bit over zealous at times, and thats usually my demise. I could of easily of played for the side pocket break, but i have been playing around with controlling the 1st ball in combos and it certainly paid off here since i tacked on another 50 from that breakball !

anyone who wants to pdf this sucker and post it for those of us who can't see it... just sayin' that you'd make some of us pretty happy.

Sorry about that. I will get a screen capture and post it tomorrow evening. Damn employers don't give us worker bees Internet !!!

Nice end of rack. Creative yes, but I don't think it was overly cute. You had a problem with those two balls and no real good break ball anyway.

I disagree. The one in the side is a good break ball. The problem with Steve's play is that if the carom angle on the ten ball is mismanaged, it's may well be too late to save the run. This is a chancy play given that there really is no problem at all. To me, despite its originality and aesthetic beauty, the words "overly cute" describe this pattern very well.

Using a carom to create a break ball is a great tactic, but to do so as you pocket the thirteenth ball in a rack of straight pool will, more often than not, be a poor percentage play.

The far more conventional pattern of five in the side, fifteen in the corner and then 10 in the corner, played accurately, will lave your cue ball relatively near the one, which will make it quite a simple break shot.

Oh i totally agree, just wanted to be a little zealous, which i ussually over do....the 5 in the side is the obvious breakshot though.

After reading your reply I looked at the diagram again and see that for some reason I had not read it correctly. When I posted my response I was thinking the 1 and 10 balls were laying together by the side pocket. That's why I mentioned he "had a problem with those two balls". Thanks for straightening me out.
