So i took about 3 years off from playing pool:embarrassed2:, competent pool! In AZ, at my best i was a 9, and now i shoot like a 6 on avg. I can play with some realy good players in a race to ten or so and do peretty good, but when i go to play a tourney i cave.
How do you grab the brass ring again?
More practice or playing with better player, or go and suk it up and pay for lessons?

I put the pic in cuz she is so hot!

Thanks Rvan.

I would think if you were that good before that all it would take is some practice to get back to form.

Sounds like you need a little competition tuning

Get into every competition you can find large and small. It sounds like what is out of whack is your mental game. A little self talk can do you a world of good too. Don't focus on what you are trying to avoid, focus on what you are going to do. "I'm going to run simple clean patterns and if I need to play safe I am going to do it early when I can really lock the opponent up tight." "I am going to win this match!" "I am playing well and I am going to win this event!"

Get the mental game back to par and any tuning the physical game needs will probably take care of itself.

Thanks I try to tell my self that but i don't fell the drive. Like to day, broke and run to the 8 and choke up, it wasn't a easy shot but i know that i am capable of making it.
It is relay bothering me, this is not the first time.

Thanks Rvan.

I'm fighting the dark balls, particularly the eight. I just can't seem to see the edges well enough to make a thin cut. It has gotten into my head now so I am going to spend a lot of time just throwing out the seven, eight, and nine, maybe the ten, and run them over and over. I gotta get past missing the eight too often myself. Not sure where to buy them but I have seen a set of seven black and seven yellow balls for sale. Tempted to buy them and shoot all blacks for awhile! :D

I have been noticing that my cuts and thin cuts are way off, but my long banks are good.
It may be time to see the eye doc:embarrassed2:.
I think that I'm going to go take some lessons and have the instructor watch so i get a different pair of eyes to see just how bad i am out of form.
Whats crazy is that over the last 15 years or so Ive have helped people learn the basics and fundamentals English and stuff, and some are relay good players now:rolleyes:, and you would think that i would see my self doing the same thing that i would help people with:mad:.

They used to say, if you want to be good at anything you have to work harder to get it!!

Thanks for all the help. I'm going to back to the BASIC, and start over;).

Thanks for letting me vent!!!
Rvan.

Always welcome to vent

I started a thread once, "The Pendulum Must Die!" I was just trying different strokes but venting about the pendulum and folks defending it kept that thread going for pages and pages. :D :D :D

If you can video yourself or get somebody else to you may see what you are doing wrong in an instant. What we feel like we are doing may be different than what we are doing. I have been planning to get a full length mirror for much the same reason but I have several lifetimes of bad luck accumulated from breaking mirrors now, I don't know if I can stand another seven years! :D

Hi Rvan, My name is Gene Albrecht with PERFECT AIM. After a 3 year layoff the biggest thing is getting the eyes back in the right position. You can play 8 hours a day, 7 days a week and have no life and that will eventually get your eyes to the fairly correct position or you can just get the PERFECT AIM video. Go to www.perfectaimbilliards.com and look at all the testimonials. Many of the people you know in Phoenix are in there because I just did a big promotion with PERFECT AIM in Phoenix.
The reason people are rated 3 to 10 -2 is in direct corolation with how they position their eyes. 3 rating is way out of wack 4 is a little better and 5 is a little better and when you get to a 10 -2 the eyes are almost in the perfect spot. This is why they shoot so much better because they see the shot better. That is the only reason you are not getting to the same speed very fast. Once you learn the Perfect Aim method you will not only get back to where you were quickly but you will surpass where you were real soon. Soon you could be playing the best pool of your life. Just ask one of your friends that got a lesson from me. Also on this AZ forum that you asked your question, PERFECT AIM is always on the front page. Go to it and see all the good things this will do for your game and how people that have recieved the video are amazed at what they have learned. All this for the price of the top selling video on the market today and it is only going to get better. Have a great day... Geno. Call me at 715-563-8712 if you have any questions.

Let me re frase this.
I feel like i am playing like a 6 but on agood day i can play whit the 8.
Gene I have been reading thee post about your class, and i think i would like to but realy broke right now, but my bday is coming and you never know.

Thanks Rick.

I took 5 years off. You can't get discouraged. The game will come back to you, it just takes time. Stop putting so much emphasis on the ball your shooting. Relax and have fun.

I was lucky enough to figure this game out a little and I knew eventually, I'd get it back. It took me over a year to get back to where I was happy with the way I was playing. The period, included a vast amount of playing time. Don't think it's going to happen overnight.

Good luck, and welcome back.

Starting Over

I have to agree with Hu, mental focus is the key. You have lost your mental programming for pool. I recently restarted after an 8 year hiatus and am better than before. My trick was to start from ground zero and rebuild my game as if a beginner. Along with this, I read books and magazines on mental focus. A friend (JoeyA) also gave me a few impromptu lessons focusing on mental aspects and basics (hence the rebuilding of the game).

You have the skills, you just need to find them.
Think of how much effort it took to get to your previous level of achievement. Although, not as much will be needed, it will take determination!

I played a match in a pretty big tourney where I missed nothing but nineballs and ended up losing 9-6.

I just played in a tourney a week or so ago where I beat one guy 7-1 then the very next match lost 7-1 against a guy I was dominating in pre tourney warmup.

If I figure out how to fix it, I'll let you know.

You lost your speed because of less table time right? Seems logical that you need more table time to get it back. Maybe I think that way because I'm too cheap to pay for lessons.

Rvan, I took 6 years off and I am starting to get my stroke back. I have found the three things that have helped the most for me are to shoot some on my own so I can just hit the stuff I'm having trouble with, enter tournaments to get a little healthy competition, and HAVE FUN while you are shooting. I was stressing out about losing some of my speed, but when I let go and just enjoyed myself, I started playing a lot better. Hope you get it back.

Mike
