Ginacue pleads guilty

What are the odds that the government will show up at SBE and arrest some cuemakers who have product on display.
LOL

PA does not limit the interstate commerce or ivory. However they could look at cues being sold to foreigners and try and get a Chady like confession...

You're right its your opinion. However many see it equal to the war on drugs, which was a conservative based effort, which has failed. Or as stated previously prohibition. But all things being equal, there is enough legal ivory to go around. The fact that Africa, and other countries and people, squandered the money sent to them to fight poaching, the fact they the amount destroyed would have hired and equipped an army, and the amount that dies naturally would have been enough to sustain a monitored market place.
It is without a doubt a law cast by liberals. It is without a doubt a law not based on or in reality. A chess set, an ivory handled hair brush, a cane made in the 1800's, a pool cue, to render valueless, is a direct assault on conservatives and even liberals that do not mid having such items. In the end, thanks to your friends on the Pacific Rim, this will just cause the prices to further escalate along with the killing. So at the end of the day the US can say.. oops..we tried.
Yes, the US is the second largest ivory market.. but why is that? Is it a coincidence that the busts on US soil, outside of Victor Gordon, have been with shhhhh... foreigners. So maybe if the US got rid of certain people, then the requirement for ivory would also diminish.

1 Bust

Yes this is a very liberal / conservative issue. Conservative do want to see the "illegal" ivory stopped just not at the expense of the legal ivory. Now if the libs want to say well to stop the illegal import we need to stop the legal. Maybe its time they adopted the same stance with immigration.

So the main driver of ivory demand is vanity in my opinion. And yes I know that there are a few people who "claim" that ivory is the best ferrule material. I would bet those people every bit of money I have ever held in my hands that this opinion cannot be scientifically proven in regards to performance and furthermore that they themselves likely could not tell the difference in hit and identify with certainty which ferrules were ivory and which were not in blind tests.

IF ivory had never been used in pool cues ever then this wouldn't even be a conversation right now. No one is lamenting the loss of ivory use in tennis racquets and golf clubs that I know of. So to me it's about hypocrisy and the fact that you can TRY to blame it on liberals but what you really seem to want when you do that is a free reign to rape the world's resources and if so then that's not conservative, it's just dishonorable and despicable. There are many conservatives who take conservation and stewardship seriously and who see all sides of this complicated issue.

Lambros used to sell out the night before the expo started, in his hotel room, to foreigners.
Then he would sit there at an empty table at the expo for the whole weekend.
I'm sure this still happens to a certain degree with different cuemakers.

I would think. But who won't squeal at the expo if caught? Who would take that chance now?

Some people thought my selling of vintage Bushkas, Botis and Palmers was going to lose ground.. I think I just gained some.. lol.. the real shame is the industry as a whole will suffer because of this, no matter which side of the fence you're on.

I'm sure a half-competent attorney could whip-up something for buyers to sign that will release the builder from liability.

Who would have thunk it....

Study in 2001 on what the conservationists make... but its ok.. the Jacuzzi pump is solar powered...

John, you're correct the hypocrisy is sickening... this is why the anti-poaching armies get rifles from 1905. You know they could have taken all the rifles from the Australian buy back and at least given them those...

I hear they are getting drones....

looks like flooding the market isn't actually welcomed among conservation groups.

I do think that additive and subtractive "printing" will eventually be the closest thing to a Star Trek replicator that we will see in our lifetimes.

Perhaps.
However. Energy to matter conversions are theoretically possible.
Meanwhile some idiot will be 3D printing Godzilla and setting it loose on Tokyo. :D

This is something that I highly recommend reading...

AAE Effect

Standard economic theory predicts that exploitation alone is unlikely to result in species extinction because of the escalating costs of finding the last individuals of a declining species. We argue that the human predisposition to place exaggerated value on rarity fuels disproportionate exploitation of rare species, rendering them even rarer and thus more desirable, ultimately leading them into an extinction vortex. Here we present a simple mathematical model and various empirical examples to show how the value attributed to rarity in some human activities could precipitate the extinction of rare species—a concept that we term the anthropogenic Allee effect. The alarming finding that human perception of rarity can precipitate species extinction has serious implications for the conservation of species that are rare or that may become so, be they charismatic and emblematic or simply likely to become fashionable for certain activities.

Like I said elsewhere, ranching is a much better method of preserving than "preservation."

I was reading this knife makes site about ivory per him the following is now true making buying or selling Ivory is mostly illegal.

AFRICAN ELEPHANT - President Obama's executive order has made all elephant ivory in the U.S. illegal to buy or sell as of July 6, 2016. It is however, still legal to own. There is an antique exemption but must have documentation.

More rules here looks not so good for cue trading

Pangit.....no elephant parts .....tusks or leather or anything that was culled from the elephant.

The endangered species includes more than just elephants and other exotic leathers can also
violate the law so one has to be careful. Once your cue gets grabbed, it's an ordeal to get it back.
