Go EARL

You are right, as was Asbani, and I stand corrected. :o

Thanks to Pat Fleming and Accu-Stats, there's a record. This was the 25th anniversary of the U.S. Open, and it was, indeed, 286 player at the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship in the year 2000.

1999 was another full field of 256 players, $30,000 won by Archer.

1998 had Buddy Hall claiming victory and $25,000 in a 198-player field.

The 1997 U.S. Open was considered at that time the most successful ever, with a 180-player field.

Reid Pierce won in 1996 the $20,000 first-place prize with a 100-player field.

The tournaments before 1996, the data is hard to find, but do check out this Accu-Stats catalog. What a great find. It is loaded with pool stats and a good read in itself: Accu-Stats Catalog.

Check out the picture of a young, slim and trim, military Buddy Hall below from this Accu-Stats catalog. Wow!

One thing for sure, the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship keeps going up, up, up each year with talent from around the globe, bigger money payouts, and great pool action, to boot. :)
Really doesn't matter how many are in the field its the U.S. Open, and its always the best of the best...lmo

Earl and I have been friends for 25 years. It's so good to see him win the hot seat and definitely make it to the TV Round! I'm really pulling for him to win this tournament. I think he needs something like this to get him back in the thick of things! Anyone who's ever watched him play knows they've witnessed greatness and he's way past due to win a major event. I hope this is the first of many!

That's as good as I've seen Earl play in a long time or anybody else for that matter. It was almost scary good. If he had a shot he was out regardless of the layout.

If the finals were tonight he would win, he was in rare form.

Ut oh..Earl on tv is not a good thing for his opponent, just ask Efern about the live tv cast back in the 90's...lol Win one for us semi oldtimers Earl.

Awesome

The match against Darren was one of the best matches I have seen in very long time.

Earl came with it when the heat was on, like the true champion he is.

I was hoping to see another Daz-Earl final....Shawn played good!

I hope someone watching the final on site will be nice enough to post Earl & Shawn's score during matches.

Thanks ahead - if you do :)

S.

I awalys like to see Earl do good, It would be nice to see him win a big tournment this time. Shawn is a good friend so its bitter sweet for me. But someones gotta win. I just hope Earl plays good and catches a gear. Shawn is playing triple strong his speed control is perfect and he is hitting every shot so clean, he is going to be hard to beat. Earl has the gear to over come that-on paper or in my mind this should be a hell of a match for a short race. Best of luck to both players.

f off angle and

Daz had a long 6 after Shawn kicked at the 6/10 wen the score was 8-3 or 8-4, Daz was long kind of off angle and i little jacked up, Daz fired that ball in and got out so nice. Man he hit that shot good. I think he broke dry and Shawn ran out for the win. Daz is the man recently, which is great-he is one hell of a guy.

Earl needs it...this one's big for him.

He needs the added confidence a win like this would provide, not to mention the $$$.

Earl's still 'got it' as he's proven this all this week, beating champions one after another. Convincingly, at that.

I'd love to see him playing in more of the bigger tournaments. The cost factor has been the hold back. Maybe he can build a little bankroll and parlay it.

tap tap

KK9 <-- asks who started that "tap tap" shit? Shirley F'g Temple?:wink::grin-square:

How strong was the play his lat 2 matches?

Is it just me, or were Earl's matches that we saw streamed today by the Big Truck Show, some of the best pool stream play in some time? I'd like to see the "Accustats" rating on both his Daz and Shawn matches. All 3 players played lights out. Earl was surely way above the vaunted .900. Maybe pushing .950, it was that strong. He put more torque on some key shots than an Enzo on a Camry.

Anyone agree, like Al from St L?

Crazy great play IMO.

How strong did you see it?

GO EARL!!!
