Hello all.......A couple times a week I play with a couple buddies a golf game on a 12 ft. Snooker table. I play better at all other games than my buddies but can't seem to get the best of them at this golf game. I could use a little advice from anyone that really knows this game. I don't want to explain the game to those that aren't familiar with it. For all u experienced players, please chime in. My culprit seems to be the 3 hole. Ocassionally I get shape off the 2 hole unto the 3 and them make the 3 then I do OK from there. But most of the time I get stuck on the 3 hole. I play very good safety on the player after me. We play $1 fouls, $1 a hole and $2 on last hole so nobody is getting hurt, usually winner picks up $6-7 a game. I'd really love to pick up some good pointers concerning the game so any help is appreciated.
Thanks.......:wink2:

The side pockets are the hardest pockets, that's why they're numbered so the last hole is a side pocket. You need to get REALLY good at lagging your ball in front of the hole. From there, 1 and 2 rail kicks are your friend (spot on the wall kicking system without English is your bestest friend :) ) You should also work on your 2 rail banks towards the hole and controlling the speed on them so that they die very close to the pocket.
Golf is a tough game, especially if the table is set up for it with tight pockets. It's not common to get good shape to have an easy shot at the 3 or 6 unless somebody sells out.
Where I used to play, if the game has 3 players or more, the person who sells the 6 hole pays double.

The other poster is exactly right. Especially playing one ball golf, you have to know the table and be able to kick accurately.

Death lag.

The death lag up too the three hole or even the out hole is huge. Buried in the hole makes it hard for your man to leave you. The three hole is bigger than the out hole because no one ever gets to the out without making the three. Obviously! Things really start moving for that first guy to make the three. The whole game is controlling the three hole. Buried in the hole you are usually kicking two rails to make that ball. Another huge shot to practice.

Speed and knowing 2 and 3 rails plus what will happen to the cb on each shot. sellout on the 3 hole is a massive mistake. Leave more important than getting yours close.

I've heard of this game, but nobody has ever explained the rules to me. Anybody mind explaining?

Golf.

I've heard of this game, but nobody has ever explained the rules to me. Anybody mind explaining?

Start from breaking end of table. First hole is on your right. Clockwise to last side pocket. Draw pills for shooting order. Make every hole in order and don't leave a shot for the guy that follows you. Don't have to hit a rail but must hit your ball or penalty. Your ball is respotted next turn and a hickey (foul) is charged. You can't be hooked from a foul from the fellow in front of you. Offending ball is lifted and put back after you shoot. Everyone gets their first shot of the game from the kitchen and then play from there. Gentlemen rules means if I am rousting the most advancing player, especially the three hole or out hole the man following me should not GO for his hole!!! You can, but you will be labeled a scoundrel and eventually you will not be welcome in the game! If you do not play defense on the player behind you, again, you are a scoundrel or idiot. If someone accidentally makes you in your hole, you get that hole. You must make your hole without scratching. Playing heads up, two people, you can handicap your opp.. Giving them any hole you choose to make things more even. No giving holes in ring games, more than two people.

thanks for the explanation, but I think I need to see this game in action to fully understand it

The whole game revolves around pressure kinda like one pocket. If you play head to head and you are running for your life every shot you are out matched. Keep your ball on the same side of the table as the guy leaving you to create pressure. You may benefit by getting a bank or he may double kiss the cue ball, hit a round trying to get out or scratch. Bottom line is if your on the right side of the table eventually they will make a mistake. Game is more about moves. Yes you need to know all the 2,3,4 and 5 railers and be able to hit them at the right speed in order to keep pressure on your man. Giving up the 3 hole will really diminish your chances of winning as it is much tougher to play safe which will limit your ability to keep pressure on your man. I've played champions that have had no chance as there are so many little moves. Pay close attn to the best player in the game and try to figure out why he did what he did.

When lagging the 3 hole and the 6 hole it's not enough just to be close. You have to end up on the right side of the hole.

If, for example, the approval for you is on the 1 or the 2 hole... when you lag you want to leave your ball on the closest to the pocket to the head string. This will prevent the guy before you from being able to take a nice easy shot at his hole on his next shot. He will have to fire at his hole so that he can move the cueball back to the other end of the table in order not to leave you a straight in shot at your hole.

advice

U playing jam up safes on the person following u then puts him in a bind to really get safe so he sells out to the guy following him. Thus the reason why u aren't winning. Play safe.but don't play him so hard he can't get out of the trap. I bet ur the best player of the three. If y'all lag for the break try to lag worse than the worse shooter but better than the second best shooter.

The best golf player I have seen is King Kong. Most people play to put the ball as close to the 3 hole as possible, but, if you dont you have no shot, King Kong always plays the ball to the middle of the table making it makable for alot more spots on the table, This puts pressure on the guy you follow and makes his saftey much harder. Give it a try

It's not so bad to leave your ball on the OPPOSITE side rail (or close) as well, giving you a bank toward your hole. The side pockets are much bigger on cross side banks! Remember that.
Also, it's true that in lagging for your hole you must have perfect speed. If you go past the hole your dead for two turns at least.

This thread brings back some great memories.

Anyway, I think the key is practicing your object ball control. Being able to place it where you want with accuracy is the best skill you can have for golf. Most every poolplayer can control the cue ball, but the golfers have both balls on a string.

Other than that, if you're playing against better players, I'd recommend keeping a low profile and not trying to mess with people too much because once you make yourself a target, you'll have zero chance to win.

So true. Especially true if the man following you is trying to hold the leader of the game who is going for three hole or out hole. You must help him and even give him a good shot for a roust. Sometimes you just can't advance you own agenda. Some people will constantly guilt you to do the right thing for the overall good of the game knowing you aren't helping yourself. Meanwhile they just get closer and closer to their own hole. Novice players should not get in games with experienced players. They will always be the guy that sells the game out. Who follows who is huge. Everyone would like to be following that least skilled player and moving on easily. Some people will not play if certain other people play because they play recklessly. To be invited to play in larger money games is a complement to your correct and conservative style of play. The most skilled player does not always win.

Get in there alone and practice two rail kisks to the 4 and out hole. Findsd a place on the wqall the mark where you are aiming and shate it with nobdy. Two raail kicks to the sides is criticaland can win lots of games.
